Have you seen that message lately when joining the forums?

Well you can thank Amazonaws and a host of other data-center/bots scanning the forums. Over 2.500 guests and most of them are scanning the forums.

What this is doing is filling up a table in the database. When that happens the forum through that error until the software runs the hourly cleanup.

We are investigating the best way to block these idiots without affecting normal user and guest traffic. Unfortunately one of the biggest culprits was a vpn server and amazon data-center in Singapore. To reduce the traffic from them we Blocked Singapore. This is a temporary block and will be removed as soon as we determine we can.

When you see that it means we are working on the server. I turn off the forums anytime the following functions are performed:

Database backup
Mysql service restart
OS updates
Server reboot

or anytime we feel the database could get corrupted while working on the server. When in doubt it is easy to turn the forums on and off.
 
Things are definitely improving (for now). The number of visitors/guests is plausible. And the performance of the site is a lot more "snappy".
 
Yep, seen it a couple times myself and pretty much figured most of it was due to a denial of service attacks.
