Oral surgery yesterday, and strange experience.....

For the third time in my life, I was sedated with nitrous oxide yesterday. But during the sedation, I experienced a brief "blackout" period that I do not want to repeat.

My heart started pounding, and within a few seconds I blacked out. Very strange, helpless feeling. When I came back to reality, both the tech and the surgeon seemed somewhat frustrated. The surgeon said I had been flailing about (not a good thing to happen during surgery). I did some reading on side effects from overdosing of nitrous oxide, and it isn't good.

I won't be having that again. That was scary.

That sounds like a scary situation. I've read too many horror stories about sedation in dentist offices.

I've had IV sedation before, and never had a bad experience. But I chose nitrous this time, purely for economical reasons; it was cheaper.

I won't do that again.

Nitrous is best kept at the dragstrip, and even then it will give an engine an occasional blackout.

Glad you're ok,I didn't even know they used Nitrous as a sedative, that just seems bizarre!!

I like it all....gas da works...he..he..he..I wanna feel good just before I cut da check...it takes da sting out of my wallee.

Never had nitrous. Always novocane with teeth work. Just had my wisdom teeth pulled last month. This time they used an IV. Took about an hour, I was out like a light. Most surprising was no pain after.
