Orbx AK Mesh Released

ObsidianAnt talks about the new mesh in his latest video and he reached out to ORBX about how similar it is to default.
Watch from the 3:50 mark for their statement wich sound like a pretty reasonable explanation to me.

Note that there are a wealth of excellent free Alaska airports up on FlightSim.to, many of which are payware quality. I really wish you could filter by state and not just country there. I've filled in a bunch of missing airports that way.

In fact, that's my biggest hesitancy about the OrbX product. It's inexpensive enough to buy given how much I like flying in Alaska, but I've seen mesh products mess up third-party add-ons.

Could not agree more, as a long time add on downloader I am amazed at that site. You cannot select by state but the nearest and best thing I use is the "Scenery Map" that is helpful to at least zoom in on a geographical area.

Cheers,

Denny, just put Alaska in the search bar at Flightsim.to .

I'll probably pick that up instead of the bigger package.
Note that it's Ketchikan, not Juneau, that's available stand-alone.

Got both. Juneau's really nice for the most part, except the FSX vehicles look crappy and really should be replaced with MSFS versions. (2D wheels are really distracting.) Having flown into Juneau a few times IRL, it's a good representation. Ketchikan is decent. Way better than default, but if I'd paid more than $4.50 (bundle discount since I had the FSX version) I might have been annoyed. It's certainly not impressive like OrbX's native MSFS releases, but I do support these inexpensive ports as "filler" while we await full MSFS versions, because if you fly the area a lot, despite their lower detail they're still worlds better than the default airports.

The Alaska mesh definitely does decrease pop-in. With the inclusion of the Juneau airport, I feel it's worth the cost, But I'd love to see someone do a detailed Juneau airport/city scenery someday.

Regarding Ketchikan, there is a full MSFS version available from Northern Sky Studio (NSS), which I thoroughly recommend. Generally I'm more impressed with their products than the current releases from ORBX.
Thanks! I have one of their Hawaii sceneries and it's great.
