OrbX NA Warbirds Airfield Scenery

For what it's worth I went to the topic you started over at Orbx and spoke my peace. Hopefully it helps. It'd sure be nice I think
 
I think they shy away from making an airport too close to Seattle because of FPS reasons.

On the other hand Skagit is already on their agenda, as you can see on their roadmap:

They normally take photographs of the buildings at the airport so chances are that the air museum at Skagit will be present.
 
Don't know why it come to me right off the bat, what about Arlington? Has military history and current warbird presence, also has a great airshow and fly-in in July.

Well, Paine Field, Skagit and Arlington have all been mentioned. The most popular here - so far - appears to be Paine Field/Snohomish County Airport. Let me say up front that I don't know the area, but having researched 'working museums' and airshows, then I can see why Paine Field is so popular.

As already mentioned there are two working museums there, with plenty of WW2 warbirds and vintage aircraft. That would give real atmosphere as a home to fly a Spitfire/Mustang etc from. Also, as noted it is very well placed to hop to the other OrbX add on airfields.

I guess that it all depends on how much support is registered here and whether OrbX see it as a worthwhile proposition. I accept that the large scale of the airport might be an issue for them. Having said that, with enough support to make it commercially attractive then why should they not do it? JohnC has already offered to take photos for them.

Anyway, keep the comments coming - and don't forget to post in the thread on FTX. If you want such a 'home' to have a chance of becoming reality, then you need to vocally support it!
 
Arlington Field has hardly the warbird presence it once had, since the Flying Heritage Collection moved to Paine Field. Here is a list of just 'some' of the aircraft based at Paine Field:

(The new-build Me 262's were/are produced at Paine Field as well)

Others that will eventually arrive at the Flying Heritage Collection include what will be the worlds most accurate/authentic B-25J, what will be the worlds most accurate/authentic FG-1D Corsair, and what will be the worlds most accurate/authentic P-38 Lightning. They also have what will be the worlds only airworthy Fw 189, the only airworthy original Me 262, and even an He 111 (Spanish built, I believe being restored with original German engines).

As it stands right now, Paine Field in the default PNW scenery, is quite good actually, and you can easily find the FHC hangar and it is probably the one area I fly out of most within the scenery.
 
Another good place for warbirds not to be forgotten, is Tillamook, which is also covered in the PNW NA scenery! This is an absolutely beautiful and unique place to fly. Housed in the giant former US Navy dirigable hangar on the field, there is another massive amount of airworthy/displayed aircraft. In the last few years, some regular flyers from this field include a P-51D, PBY Catalina, AT-6, Grumman J2F Duck, SBD Dauntless, P-38 Lightning, and Ki-43 Oscar (reproduction).

Paine Field does look a great place to visit. I have been googling it since the suggestion was made. I think that there is also a third 'warbird' organisation there - which has been constructing a couple of replica Me262s.

As you say, they scenery is good now with PNW installed. But it would be great if they were able to give it their 'special' treatment"! :d

There does seem to be a fair bit of interest here - well over 500 views in less than 24 hours.

Paul, using your Google map, here is a guide I drew up real quick to illustrate where the museum's/organization's buildings are. The runway I highlighted is the one that is always used by all of the groups.

Furthermore, here is an excellent video of the Mustang-show performed at Paine Field last year, taken from the west-side of the airport.

And another 'warbird' airport in Washington, is Bellingham, where the Historic Flight Museum (HFM) is based...P-51D 'Val-Halla', A-1 Skyraider 'Proud American', AT-6, SNJ, O-2 Skymaster, etc.
 
I sure hope they are listening at Orbx this would be fantastic! I know where I would hanging out!

All this gets me excited. I can't forget the fact I still have to buy all this Orbx stuff after my new build so I can experience my reason for carrying on..lol.

Orbx, that's a build in itself!!
