Orbx Palm Springs released!

Hmmm I asked this at their forums... Can it work without FTX global? Jarred basically said yeah but it won't blend properly. fine with me

On their sales page it says must have global tgough

Anyone buy this w/o global?

I do not have this one, sure it works without Global, but you are bound to get blending issues with default scenery.

Looks nice. If anyone runs this with SoCal photo real, let me know how it looks?

For me, its all about FPS - it can be pretty as miss Scarlet Johannsen in an edible thong, but if it kills me frames its no good to me

KPSP and Global

Ryanbatc,

When Orbx says KPSP needs FTX Global now, what they really mean is that this scenery is designed and colorized with Global in mind and the terrain textures were made to blend seamlessly with the Global background textures. It will still 'work' without Global but you may notice some boundary color and/or texture differences where the KPSP coverage area touches the background scenery you have installed now. This may or may not bother you. KPSP is located geographically in what will eventually become Orbx's Southern California (SCA) Region, and Vlad ,the KPSP designer, is already on record as saying that when the SCA Region is eventually released, KPSP will be updated and re-released by Orbx to blend seamlessly into the SCA Region scenery.

What a scenery!
FPS are the best i`ve ever seen with an ORBX airport. But this is not an airport,i`m flying now for nearly 2hours in my A2A Cub and haven`t still seen everything.
Unbelievable work from Jarrad.

Thanks, and I bought it hehe.... I'm a huge fan of Pilot Edge so I went for it anyway.

Wow. Really really really good on fps! Of course I say this and it borders default scenery. But the airport itself and ag is smooth. I rarely get 30 fps locked anymore with addons but with the Legacy and FTX PSP I was maintaining 30 fps. No clouds though and no AI traffic. I didn't touch the config panel so whatever default is is what I was using.

Honestly blending on the SE side of the area is superb with default. I admit it is a little more harsh on the mountain side but doesn't bother me at all!

A few pics from FSX. (These aren't super pretty like on the orbx page but will represent what FSX without any ENB should look like)

I'm downloading now:bee:
My guess is they needed some revenue (it's been a while since they had a product to sell) and even if socal is not yet released I'm happy to be able to venture south from Monterey via Global. They have been releasing a lot of triple installers and patches recently which is good to see so I understand their need for some cash.

Maybe they should have a sale. That generally generates lots of cash input as people like me scramble to get things they really cannot afford but buy anyway because they are on sale.

Nice screenshots!!!
Normaly I am flying only in the european region, but this one could be a good stay for the winter;-)
I'll wait for some reviews but I am already sure that everyone will say AWESOME!

Crap, another product I'm not going to be able to live without! : ) So cool to see a scenery like this for a place I've actually been to and drove through. The airport can be considered a warbird field as well, as the Palm Springs Air Museum is located there, with some of their aircraft operating from the airport. There are also some airshow events that are held there. I've noticed in some of the preview screenshots shared in the ORBX forum that the Palm Springs Air Museum buildings, and even outdoor aircraft, are modeled/textured in great detail. Also makes for a nice little warbird flight, to fly from Chino to Palm Springs, or the other way around.

Besides the incredible mountains in the region, the other thing that remains in my mind is all of the hundreds upon hundreds of wind mills, and I see that detail hasn't been missed either. : ) It looks like the detail in the cities around the airport will also make for some very immersive flights around the area.

Have bought it and will fly this afternoon. It looks incredible.
Nice to hear about the frame rates. ORBX does it again. Great
job by Jarrad Marshall.

Anthin.

As a heads up - I went over to the orbx forums to post my applause for the scenery. Turns out some users pointed out the fact that I'm missing a ton of trees. I think that's because I don't own FTX Global. So if you like trees you'll want to hold off unless you buy Global. I didn't think there were any trees in this area but there are! The ones at the airport boundaries ARE present but the city does not have them. Doesn't really bother me but probably a good reason why I was getting extreme excellent performance hehe.

If you want to try it with trees anyways you have to install the latest OrbXLibs. If you like it better without trees you have to delete the libs again.

I installed the libraries off their site dated early Oct but nothing changed. Are there more recent ones?

Oh, re-activating FTX central NA + libraries worked.... so I guess you don't need global yay!
