Ordered It, Finally... My TrackIR

I ordered it Thursday night from Natural Point, and can't wait for it to show up. I've wanted one for a couple years, but the price on Track IR 4 went down a bit, so I broke down.

However, I haven't received a shipping confirmation from them. I wonder if they do that? :d

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be crackin' out on flying even more than I have been once I get mine. :ernae:

You won't regret it for a momment, I love mine!! Besides a set of controllers, I'd list this as the best hardware addon for FS bar none.

I'd also sing the praises of the TrackClip Pro thingy, makes a great thing almost perfect. (it performs much better for me in lighter conditions than the standard cap clip (which prefers a dull/darkened room))

good times roll,

Ditto, JD...I'm lost witout it. It's especially handy while landing because you can visually orient yerself with whatever field you're landing at, assuming there are not too many clouds.

Exactly, I can't wait for the landing approach idea. I have a couple of ships with really high dashboards, and I know, I could modify that in the cfg. However, being able to lift my head up (which I've actually caught myself trying to do a couple times in the past) and actually look over the dash will be so awesome.

Everyone, tell us your Track IR stories! :d :bump: :ernae:

Don't forget it works with other games and sims too. Also if have 4, download the Beta 5 software, it works fine with 4 and is just so much cooler to use.

The pizza guy loaned me his Track IR system and I was totally blown away by the way FS2004 was expanded. Now that I have returned the system, flying just isn't the same.

Oh how I wish I could freely spend a hundred for the Track IR system...but with nearly $6000 worth of uninsured MRIs coming up next month for my wife...my wallet is singing the blues! Toys will have to be put on hold for some time.

what's the clip like on the TrackIR 5? is it still a thing you clip onto caps?

i have the v4 version and love it....but the clip part always fall off the cap. I know they sell a clip which goes on your ear...not sure if this comes with v5 now.

i can't wait till they have one which can track your eye-movement instead...so no more need for clips

Its OK.....but...
after flying for so many years without it.......it takes a while to adjust to!

It works great for straight & level / sober flights... but if you're doing aerobatics and trying to drain that last drop of Budweiser then LOOKOUT!!

Feng,

IIRC one of the accessories you can order is a sheet of reflective stickers, just slap a couple of them on your retinas, ét voila, eye-ball tracking, lol. Would have to be IFR with the visual imparement caused.:icon_lol:

I have TIR4 and the ear clip, commented on it above, it plugs into a USB port and thus it has it's own light sources, doesn't rely on reflections from the camera like the cap clip does, making it perform far better across different lighting conditions.

I run the Beta5 software with TIR4 with no probs, not entirely sure what if any hardware differences there are between 4 and 5 though.

Mine's coming tomorrow morning, and I'm just depressed because I don't have it yet. :d :d Hehe, then, I gotta go help my Dad clean a dang room out tomorrow sometime. :bump: :bump:

Oh god it's here! I'm wearing the clip, and just gave it a quick try. It's a bit jittery at first, and going to download updates. This is so cool. Does anyone have a profile made where you don't get so much snap-back to the center view? I'm trying to smooth it; I guess it's trial and error a bit, but not too hard to get flying. :ernae:

The main problem I've got with it is that it wants to hang on looking down and I have to hit F12 to recenter it.

It's jittery as heck. On takeoff, it won't stop rattling around, and it's annoying and hard to deal with. It also does this when turning. I'm not sure what it is; a setting I didn't click, interference?

Please help guys. It's so cool, but this is disappointing if we can't figure it out.

EDIT: Had to turn Active Camera off. Smooth as silk now, and won't be needing AC anymore anyway... :d :d :bump:

You can edit profiles. First move the "smoothing" slider right to 100. Then select each axis and play with the points in the curve. Raise the ones around center so small head movements do not move your view. Only trial and error will teach you. When tweaked, it's the best.

PT, it'll be one of the best investment for computer flying you'll ever make. It might take awhile to get used to but once you do, you'll never be able to use that hatswitch again. ;) Program it for something else that's useful.

It's an awesome little toy. I hope that it won't burn up, though; little sucker gets hot on the back. :d

I need to figure out how to increase certain sensitivities, while keeping others down. The advice about keeping the center of the line high worked for minimizing little lateral movements, but I do want to move my head less the the right or left to twist my view right or left.

I'll keep on it. Any advice you Track IR Vets might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mates :ernae:
