Ordered It, Finally... My TrackIR

When I first set up the Track IR system, I had the camera thingie on top of my monitor...and it was twitchy and jerky. I moved the camera to the top self of my computer desk's hutch thingie...a distance of maybe 6 inches....and that really smoothed things out and made the system much more usable for me. I still had a lot of movement, but that is due to me being a twitchy, spastic person...I move some part of my body constantly...I never sit still. Any body movement at all transfers to your head and the Track IR picks that movement up. I got used to the system after a few days and really enjoyed it.

Hopefully, in a month or two I will be able to pick up a pc camera that works with FreeTrack and build my own system. I have the software, I have the hat, I have plans for the IR LED get up to go onto the hat. A $30 camera, $10 worth of LEDs and some small electronics parts, and I will be looking around my sim world like a mad man again.

Awesome. Either way, I can't let go of this thing. My best friend is a WOW-aholic, and he Sims only once in a while. He bought the pedals and an X-52 before WOW, but he always gets bored after 10 minutes. Thus, his FS gear has collected dust for months.

I brought my Track over to his house for 30 minutes this evening, and he thought it was awesome after his skepticism went away. Will it break him from WOW? Probably not... But he still thought it was cool as hell. :d

I'll get used to it, and set up some curves the way I want 'em, and go immersing for hours at a time. :ernae:

By the way, found this while browsing around their forum. Very useful for some nice info on how to set it up and tweak it:

I'm gonna go buy the game Arma 2 this weekend....and TrackIR supports this title! I'd be interesting to see how it works w/ a FPS game

EDIT: Had to turn Active Camera off. Smooth as silk now, and won't be needing AC anymore anyway... :d :d :bump:

Hi Pilatus

You can keep your Active Camera.

Just go into the menu of Active Camera, and uncheck "external pilot view"

Then open Trackir, and enter "profiles", go to "available profiles" and double-click "Flight".

When the "flight" profile opens, uncheck the "Roll" box.

Also remember to check the correct hardware you have under "tracking". "track clip pro", "vector" or "dot".

Then go to "hot keys" and make sure you make keys for "pause" and for "center".

Also make sure that you don`t have any sharp light sources in the room. The Track device definately dosn`t like that.

When you set up your profiles, you might want to be "a little conservative".
Maybe if you are doing some online combat simming, a little more aggressive settings are desirable.

During flight, use the "pause"-key when you are tuning your radio`s or clicking your switch`s.:icon_lol:

Enjoy your new hardware:ernae:

The pause idea is a good suggestion, Jen. I am having a bit of trouble tuning and clicking stuff while flying, but it's more than worth putting up with for the great improvement.

I'll try your AC suggestion. However, this next part is disturbing. When I pull up or nose over, my head kinda does the movements that Active Camera used to do to simulate head latency. I don't know why, but it almost feels like I'm there, now. :d :bump:

I need to purchase another...I had a v4 model, and the legs broke about 13 months after I bought it, out of warranty...tossed it a while bakc.

Well, like I said, at least they're reduced in price or on sale at least. I love mine, but since I got it yesterday, I've only flown 45 minutes on it. Been more busy than average for my usual 'got not a damn thing to do' summer days. :d I'm planning to take off for a long flight in about 10 minutes, if I can. :monkies: :bump: :ernae: :bump: What can I say, I just like the little 'bump' guys. :d

If TrackIR supported CFS2 I'd be all over that like white on rice.

I looked on the Track IR site, and I read through the forums briefly. I guess the reason why TrackIR was not release support for CFS2 is that they feel that no one is developing anything for it.

Thats a shame because its not entirely true. There are not commercial developers working on CFS2 currently, but the freeware community is still there. Since Track IR supports the Flight Simulator community all the way back to FS2002, they it shouldn't be hard to add CFS2 to the mix. Its Practically the forerunner of FS2002 in many aspects.

Just my thoughts.
