Nothing news breaking but I just wanted to share that I have been smoke free for a year and 3 days.:applause:

I picked up that little habit when I was in SOI in the Marine Corps and smoked for about 17 years. Then a couple of days after my 35th birthday I decided that was enough.

I quit with the "assistance" of the the pill Chantix (Champix across the pond in Europe). It worked great. So good as a matter of fact that I only took it 3 weeks instead of the recommended 3 months.

Still enjoy the occasional cigar but I haven't touched a cigarette. :woot:

Congrats! You know the one thing they always say about somoking, is that your body will begin to heal itself... Isn't that amazing! Keep up the good work...

Outstanding ! I'm planning to give quitting a serious try myself. Tell me how you used Chantix and if you had any side-effects. Is it available over the counter ??

:help:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

:applause::applause::applause:

welcome to the rest of your life:wavey:

i did it cold turkey, both times. the last time i did it was 3 years ago.

OUTSTANDING! :ernae:
12 years here. Best thing I have ever done in my life!
The crazy thing is that even after all this time I still occasionally think about it...

Thanks, Guys! I feel better than I have in years. I have no idea how I smoked and was able to run PT. I was never a heavy smoker, usually only smoked no more than a half a pack a day (±10 cigarettes). I know 1 cigarette was 1 too many.

Toastmaker - I never had any side effects. One of my co-workers took it on an empty stomach (you're supposed take with food) and complained of having an upset stomach. I know that one of the big problems brought up was that the drug was linked to depression and suicide. Never really researched that because I like living way too much, but I definitely told my wife to watch for mood swing and stuff like that.

Anyways, it's not available OTC, so you gotta go to the doctor and you have to check to see if your insurance will cover it. Fortunately, my insurance covered it.

Here are some links you might want to look at.

Congrats, sir ! It's a tough thing to shake !

I never smoked, but both of my parents did. My dad decided one day to quit, threw the pack out of the truck window, and never looked back.

My mother, on the other hand, tried dozens of times and never could. Smoked till she passed at 77 years old.

Good job!! It's been roughly the same amount of time for me, except for a brief relapse where I was stressed during RIAT 2008. While in England, I smoked for a week and put it back down again. I ran PT for years and got away with it, but now I don't know how I ever did.

I still think about it from time to time, even though the smell and taste disgust me.

Congrats! :ernae:

I cold turkeyed a 28yr Copenhagen snuff habit on my last Med cruise in the Navy. That was 13 years ago now and for several years, I'd catch myself reaching for the can on occasion.

Kicking a nicotine habit is rough, but if you want to bad enough, it can be done.
