• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

Pretty horrific indeed. I am off the mind that these warped teens will never be productive members of society with this kind of mindset. Try'em as adults to the full extent. :rocket:

even if they did becaome productive members of society, can anyone really say that a few years in jail repays what the other boy will permanently go through - if he survives?
 
Over a stupid video game. It's hard to imagine what this world is gonna be like in another 20-30 yrs.
 
I imagine in 20-30 years we will have flying cars and be able to go into outer space on vacation.

I used to think that'd be the case as a kid in the mid 70's watching Space 1999....still ain't happened,heck we haven't even gone back to the Moon !:icon_lol:


As regards the perpetrators of this crime....no point sticking them in jail to become a burden on society. They have nothing to contribute to society but pain.....incinerate them...literally. My opinion ,of course, and may not be pc...but this is how I'd prefer to deal with the problem.
 
To read something like this makes you really wonder how something like this gets in kids head to do something like this.If you take the time and look at what kids are watching on TV, the video games that are being released it's all about killing,fighting,murder role playing..ect..ect. One trend I have never understood that is becoming very popular is to use your cell phone or your video camera to record a person getting the chet beat out of them and then posting it on Utube.

alot of people might agree that there is alot of crap being fed to kids through the television and other forms of media. but they don't actually want to make the effort to do anything about it.

as long as you keep paying the cable companies, they will continue to feed you garbage. to all the people who pay for cable, but say there is nothing on tv, i say good for you. you deserve all the crap those monkees fling in your general direction, because after all, you paid for it. cut the cable, read a book, ride a bike, talk to your family
stop vegging out in front of the television, stop buying the video games you don't approve of. (spoken to people in general, not specific to you, moe)

I can understand fights between teenagers...but this is simply inhumane and cruel. I agree...exposure to television media and video games is certainly a primary factor.

I talked to my students about this...many of them were very upset.
 
I must agree that prolonged exposure to graphic violence in movies, tv, games, etc. likely desensitizes people to such horrific acts. As far as this or any crime goes, let the punishment fit the crime.
 
i think the boy who lit the lighter and the one who dowsed the boy should have to go and help change the dressings and what have you and help with his care...

That is an excellent idea. It would likely do far more good that what the juvenile court system will ultimately dispense in the way of "wisdom..." :applause:
 
There is a donation fund that his parents set up because they have very little money since they are unemployed if any of you want to donate ( I already donated $20). The sad thing is taht a personally knew the victim simce I go to his school (Deerfield Beach Middle School). :(

I think this is a 'punishment' that fits the crime. Unless you've dealt with someone with severe burns, you probably have no idea how life-changing it is for the care-givers.

To me, one of the biggest issues that allows crimes like this is that there is little or no sense of the consequences of one's actions ( esp. for teens - no experience, not much teaching and no threats).
Having to help with the long term care may (?) teach that there are consequences that aren't fun.

In addition to the organ problems and infections, there will likely be grafts and then long-term rehab to rebuild a lot of motor functions, not to mention counselling that will be needed.

LordAkshay, although we may never meet Michael, there a lot of people here who care, are hoping and praying for him. Although it's going to be a long haul, when you can, please pass on to Micheal and his family that they are in our thoughts.

sorry guys, I hate to disagree, but I don't feel like video games are to blame here. Sure, there are societal issues at work, but to blame childrens bad behavior on a video game is like blaming beer for getting me drunk, when I was the one tilting the bottle. Bad parenting, lack of punishment for other actions, etc. are much more relevant. Im 22, been playing games since i could talk, and have never had any urge to bring violent action against my fellow man. (siblings are different lol). I know that when i was a kid, like many of you, i was whipped every which way, and no matter where i went or what i did, i was usually wrong, and got beat for it. I now like to think i was being "shaped" into society. My younger siblings (much younger) never get beat, get all the rewards i got but with none of the necessary work to get those rewards, and well needless to say, they dont listen and being over that house is to be inside a giant screamathon. not trying to detract from the OP, its a terrible thing, but you cannot blame terrible parenting on a game.
