OT: Aerofly video

Yes but it is a demo. You can hardly expect them to give you the world for free. Remember the high prices of the Pro editions of previous flightsim guys. ;) I think most people in the end just bought those. I know I did.

I feel it's so pointless to speculate about how crappy this will be as we all really only know some of the details, which in my opinion are fairly general so far. I am definitely going to try out the demo and then I'll see if it's enough of a step up from FSX. :)
 
Looks, nice, but strangely enough, I'm going to see what Flight brings to the table... Maybe, just maybe, Microsoft can pull their heads outta their @asses and release a smooth, highly optimized and detailed FS.

We'll see. Holding breath optional. :d :ernae:
 
ok, Flight is smooth, very smooth. Even on my five year old quad core. Its also very beautiful. The scenery is extremely well done, and the scale is 1:1 in all aspects ( getting from one end of Oahu to the other takes a little longer than the twenty or so minutes that fsx takes ). But,, Here's your sign..
You get Oahu free, thats the hook, then you buy the other sceneries and planes for the rest of the globe as they're released. Considering the level of detail and quality i'm seeing, it can only be expected. Unless your rich, simulated global navigation i'm afraid will become a thing of the past.. :(

Back to Aerofly FS: I sure had it on my purchase list, cause of the looks and the area to fly in (do a lot of Switzerland flying in FSX, too), but there are a few things to consider - especially compared to FSX/Flight:

1. no clickable VC
2. not fully programmed flightmodells or operations within the aircraft/VC
3. only daytime flying!
4. no ATC
5. no big airports just small airfields
6. no roadtraffic
7. autogenglitches visible on low-level (trees on roads, etc.)

Well otherwiese I think it looks great, but of course against the "free" core of Flight it is more expensive and might stay limited flitghtenvironmentwise.

Not sure yet, if I take the plunge, I guess the limited system modelling of the aircraft turns me off too much...

Ordered Aerofly FS a few days ago and I'll report ASAP.
I've used the Aerofly RC versions for year, and they the flight dynamics and graphics were always very impressive.
If you just want to experience the joy and fun of flying this might be the sim!

Reminds me a lot of Flight Unlimited 1 which was even more limited in every aspect but nevertheless it was definitely the best Flight sim of its time!!!

What I'd like to know is, are they looking to expand this to a full system Sim or is this as far as they plan to go? Flight gets less and less attractive every day as I consider the fact that my bank account would never take the strain of having to pay for every little thing I want to do. . . .every scenery expansion module, every new airplane, all that "pay as you go" stuff will make it a "Thanks, but no thanks" for me. Aerofly, on the other hand, looks as good or better in many areas and I think in time, (if they choose to go that far) it could end up being the FSX11 we never got from Microsoft.:salute:

since I feel very similar to you concerning Flight and looking at this sim as a possible alternative I studied the FAQs on their homepage closely:
1. The main goalpoints of it are environment-quality (looks) and best-possible flightmodell
2. The engine/aircraft management is kept simple, to make it an easy entry simulator, BUT if customer demand is there, this is scalable!
3. also scalable is the scenery. Border regions around Switzerland are there, but in lower resolution, so this could possibly grow...
4. Only daytime is modelled, because of the use of photoscenery (which would look weird or just dark - shaddows, etc.), but could also be enhanced in the future.

The company is small so they obviously decided to get going with a focus on quality, thus narrowing the output size to keep it in controle. If demand is there - and they claim to keep an eye on it - this sim is able to grow further.
