this is a pic of the 1914 Buick of the auburn cal fire dept hose wagon,,this is the accuall truck from 1914,it was bought new in 14 along with a second one,a third 1914 buick was bought in 1916 but was registered as a 16,,(state/federal plates registrations began in 1914)the two '14s are true hosewagons with oak bodies and painted wrought iron fixtures all made in the local auburn iron works..(still in business)the "'16 " was a chemical truck,,was top of the line at the time but was useless in reality.had a small water tank with a chemical tank and the chemical ( i have no clue what it was,i knew at one time) was dumped into the water and a reaction pushed the water throough the hose to put out the fire....extingishers were made this way for a long time..you took it and turned it over and banged it hard on the floor to break a chemical bottle inside which pressurised the water inside.same diff...dry chem..were sort of the same..they had a dry chemical and a air charge..you punctured the air canister inside and it charged the powdered the dry chem and you could snuff out the fire..annnny who.......the three rigs were in an apple orchord in the 1950s when a fire riipped through ,one of the auburn firemen guy named jim dobbas,,,,some of you may know the name as he own dobbas construction they clean up major railroad crash scenes,,,might be called treadway or something too...but they go all over the world now....he had the frames and iron work in his property at verdi cal...nv? and donated it back, and myself and three others restored it
