Home for tea and tiffin!
My birthday is Friday for which I'm having a self-indulgent day which includes finally seeing The Avenger film and visiting York's new-ish chocolate cafe. On Sataurday I'm back tot he Yorkshire Air Museum for their Dehavilland weekend, quote this PR e-mail I received:
"Thank you for your e-mail regarding the DeHavilland weekend. Apologies about the lack of information, but we are in a little bit of a Catch 22 situation with this event.
It was Tony Agar's ambition to have the Mosquito reassembled and in engine running condition to coincide with a reunion of members of the Mosquito Aircrew Association, this coming weekend - 30th June and 1st July.
Although he, assisted by members of the YAM aircraft engineering team, are working flat out to try and realise this goal, it is looking like the aircraft will not have engines running for this occasion - time is just against us I'm afraid. But, we cannot rule it out completely, even at this stage, so are caught between a rock and a hard place in terms of publicising the event. It will however, be completely re-assembled and painted, and will be on display in a central part of the Museum, opposite the Control Tower.
Our beautiful little De Havilland Devon is now in full ground running condition and will be fired up and conduct a short run on the peritrack on the Museum site.
This will take place on both days, scheduled for 2pm. The flypasts will be either shortly before or after the engine run - but this is subject to change from BBMF, depending on operating conditions on the day.
Some of the Nimrod crew will be here and are opening up the Nimrod for people to have a unique opportunity to look inside this rare aircraft. This will be by donation towards the upkeep of the aircraft.
There is a Spitfire flypast allocated on both days as well, from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight."
