OT: Cool Mustang Photos

Great thread guys!

James, nice work on those stangs. Never a bad holiday when you get to hang around warbirds.

John,

I had the extremem pleasure of going to a lecture a few years back with Pisanos. His story is absolutely unbelievable... so much so that back in the day he sold his story of his early years and combat years to a movie studio, Fox perhaps, can't remember which. I could go on for hours about him, but I think the neatest thing was how much he absolutely loves, and I mean LOVES this country. This lecture was during a time when a lot of people here in this country were confused about how patriotic we should really be feeling... He felt nothing like that... he absolutely loves this country in a way that I have never seen in anyone before... He & Gentile were good friends.

BTW, He has a book out which I have not read, but if it is anything like his lecture, it is a MUST read...

Some rare photos provided by Martin Kyburz, who runs the SwissMustangs website, of Don Gentile's war bond tour P-51D-30-NA 44-75025. This was the 2nd to last P-51D manufactured at the Inglewood, CA plant (note late-type Hamilton Standard props, and rocket launchers under the wings). The aircraft made various appearances in select cities/shows in late 1945, post VJ-Day. Mr. Kyburz was also able to track down that this aircraft eventually ended up with the Royal Korean Air Force, where it was written off in an accident in September of 1953.
