Here is a site that is interesting reading concerning the E (German) & MB Boats.

Funny; I had a relative (deceased) who was a grunt in the crotch in WW2 and fought on Tarawa and Gualacanal. He once told a story about how the Jarheads when off the front would often swap rides on the PT boats as gunners. This was under the radar and they figured that they would and go for a ride on the water and get off the beach and since they would know how to operate the guns anyway, no harm or foul. After-awhile they were forbidden to take the "mutuals" as too many of them were getting killed or wounded on the "Mosquito boats". It was almost safer on the beach!
