OT: elk herd on the move

I had that very same thing happen to me while living in Montana, once.
I remember trying to figure out what all of the 'reflectors' were ahead and almost ran into them.
It was late at night during a snowstorm.
The storm was driving them down from higher elevations.

good thing they didn't find a salt lick on the road or that video could be a LOT longer :icon_lol:

The one migration that impressed me was seeing part of this...

WOW! Guess I can no longer brag about the huge herd that hangs out where I work. Beautiful animals. I never get any work done when they are outside the building grazing. :)

very cool...
did you notice the bull bringing up the rear?
with the cow herd that large,
I would love to see the bull heard.

we have a decent herd around here
some have collars that trigger
warning lights on the highway
when they get close.

just wondering ajlanm,
where are you located?

While we don't have Elk or Caribou in my neck of the woods....we do have frogs...and come late Spring when the frogs are in full mating mode and the eggs have turned to tadpoles and the tadpoles morphed into young frogs...the roads will be covered with baby frogs moving from the wet lands into the woods. It is impossible to drive down some roads without killing a bunch of baby frogs under the tires of my car. I try to avoid as many as I can...but when there are frogs from one side of the road to the other, for mile after mile...it is impossible to avoid making amphibian jelly in the treads of my Goodyear All Season Steel Belted radial tires.

OBIO

Obio,...I always thought it was global warming wiping out the frogs. And now to know it was your Goodyear All Seasons that had the negative impact on them,....well,...that explains it all.

It wouldn't do for me have Lucky Dog's backyard. I've got too much space in my freezer.

Speaking of venison... I made a big ol' pot full of vension chili for supper.. :d

Mmmmm.... or stew or spaghetti or ...... (can't beat venison for any meal)

I had lastnights leftover backstrap for my sandwich today. Yum!

That first video is unreal. Would have love to be the one at the other end of the camera. I stopped hunting 15 years ago and miss it sometimes but I enjoy seeing them in the wild. Thanks for the video and pictures..Mike

I live in northern New Mexico.....Los Alamos. I work at the National Laboratory here. A window in my office over looks a large meadow that the Elk, Deer, Coyote, etc. like to hang out in on occasion. The forest is finally recovering from the devastating forest fire that went through town in 2000. The wildlife has been returning and growing the last couple years. Also looking healthier then ever before, especially the deer population.
