Wow...I don't know what to say,I only hope we don't get a bunch of stupid comments.Well done.:USA-flag:

Every now and then a story comes out that makes you proud to be an American, although I don't doubt that there are many of us who would have done the exact same thing had we seen that flag laying on the ground... I know I would have! :USA-flag: :salute:

It is a nice thing he did, but that article (the way it was written and the chosen words, not the story itself) makes me want to puke. You'd think there was a tornado or something right by him.

Man saves flag from rain!? What was it really REALLY acidic rain? I've seen thousands upon thousands of flags out in the rain throughout my life. I'd venture to bet a lot of them have touched/been on the ground at some point too. Nothing was ever wrong with any of them. If the guy hadn't picked it up, someone that owned the business or worked there would have seen it on the ground the next day and put it back up and no one would have known anything had happened.

Nice guy- yes. Hero- no. Fox News- same as usual...

Come on! The guy picked up a flag and folded it. So it was an American flag. So? So he was homeless. So? What's the point. I dont't mean to be so critical but HE FOLDED A FLAG IN THE RAIN! Bravo for respecting the colors. BOO to Fox for making a big deal out of NOTHING. Typical news. Typical Fox Media.

It never ceases to amaze me the comments we get from you young guys, man I wish I was so smart and knew it all when I was in my 20's.

Not sure I understand why you're upset. It is an opinion. My opinion. Fox news has a history of spewing right-wing conservative biased information. They have a history of skewing facts. What part of folding a flag in the rain makes his man a hero? Is it because he's homeless, or because it was an American flag? What if it was an Australian flag. What if the man was a middle-aged blue collar worker? Would it get the same recognition?

I simply don't believe we should give something like this so much attention. It's just not important news. It simply does not matter. Write up a paragraph thanking the man. Buy him a nice meal for the 4th out of the kindness of your heart. But do not make him a national hero with a full page article. It's not really about being smart.

I wonder... if you didn't know I was 23, what would your response have been?

man I wish I was so smart and knew it all when I was in my 20's.

Man I wish I could pick up a flag and have people wanting to send me thousands of dollars... :salute:

This has nothing to do with age. The guy did something nice, even thoughtful, but not heroic. Fox News made a big deal of it because it is Fox News. I don't think there's any need to explain it any further.

I told my parents and they thought it was a bit much too. :wavey:

The homeless guy story was a nice human interest piece for the 4th of July holiday. A bit over the top, but if the guy's actions put him in a better place in life that's a good thing. Tracon, if we didn't know you were 23 somebody may still have posted a comment about your cynical attitude, especially directed toward a simple patriotic gesture. And BTW, since
you're obviously no fan of Fox News, where do you go to get the straight scoop on news items, without an extreme slant towards the conservative OR LIBERAL view???

Well Fox is crazy conservative, and msnbc is crazy liberal. Honestly national news has put me off so much because of the horrid politics. I go for some local newspapers more nowadays (BTW this story didn't make the paper). I'm also a fan of our local CBS station too. Local news doesn't have the sensationalized BS that cable news does, at least ours doesn't. It is just as painful watching the Obama network (msnbc) worship their god as it was watching Faux worship theirs the previous 8 years. Katie Couric is annoying as >4 letter word< and Brian Williams has the personality of a house plant. I sure miss Tom Brokaw. Diane Sawyer is the least intolerable of the three networks with national news during the evening.

CNN Headline News's motto is "News and Views". We could really do without the "views" anymore. At this point I trust the Colbert Report more than any of the Bill-o's and Glenn Beck's.

That's as political as I'm gonna get at the Outhouse. :wavey:

Un*******believable how a simple story reported about the man in question as well as his actions can be dissected and spun and turned into rants about who's view is gold and who's view is dirt on the matter. Who gives a ****. The man did an honorable thing. Can the "talking heads" here or in the media just leave it at that for God's sake??? How many citizens even take the time to observe traditions and respect for our Flag and handle it the way it's supposed to be handled and cared for? Very few in this day and time for sure.

For crying out loud. You "Youngsters" have a lot to learn and one day(maybe) <--these words will will be comprehended and utilized in a common and befitting manner of sense before you speak.
Clearly not something demonstrated in some of the above remarks.

Most news is garbage anyway. This article is no exception. Kudos to the man for getting a break on life. Boo to Fox for making news out of nothing. That's really all I'm saying. I may only be 23 but you have no idea what I've done or seen in life. I am not attacking any of you, just expressing my very heartfelt views on our society.

I guess I'd use Google News if I wanted to read news.

We don't have our priorities straight. July 5th a homeless man got hit by a truck on the beach where I live. He was in the news for a day. Where is the support for his family? Yet we feel the American flag being rescued from a torrential rain is more important. Maybe Fox knew they could make a bigger story out of it?

Tracon, that homeless man's tragedy is still in the local news:
http://hamptonroads.com/2010/07/va-beach-wont-release-911-tape-homeless-mans-death
The city has covered his funeral expenses and apologized for the incident, which leaves them vulnerable to a civil suit for damages which you know the man's family is going to file. They didn't think enough of him to give him proper shelter in life, but they'll want to get paid for the circumstances of his death.

I wonder if its possible to discuss this story without proclaiming your contempt for the politics you assume is behind it, which, after all, you, as guests here, have been kindly asked, 1,000 times now, to do. Great story. He deserves the attention he is getting, and I don't care what party he, or the news reporter who reported it, belongs to.

He picked up a flag. How does that deserve any attention? Let us ignore the nationality of the flag and just look at the good deed itself...

OK.. Well. I am happy they are being taken care of. But let's face the facts. Dude folded a flag in the rain. lol. stupid. Is this the best news we can give when the BP oil spill is one of the worst disasters in America in modern times? Millions and millions of gallons of oil dumped in the ocean. We're spending money on some homeless guy for folding a flag. I say put that money towards recovery efforts. You know, stuff that affects everybody... stuff that matters...
