or want an answer...if i format my hd,and reinstall, will my Chrome browser bookmarks stay intact out in netland?...once re-signed in to google chrome..will they be there?

Formatting a hard drive wipes ALL data from that drive. There are no remaining files, bookmarks or anything else on the drive other than info the drive needs to operate. If you have data residing out there in cyberspace on somebodie's website, then a format would have no affect on that info. But all bookmarks or favorites or browsers or browser information will be erased from the formatted drive. Hope this answers your question.

Daveroo,

Every browser has the functionality to export your settings and bookmarks. export them and save or copy the file(s) to a safe place, and after formatting and reinstalling you will be able to import them again.

Sometimes even IT can be easy! BTW, count yourself lucky that it is NOT stored in "netland". It is a guarantee of your privacy. (it IS stored, just not accessible to you) You can always ask a restore of the backup the NSA has?!

Dave, I am not sure how big your HD is but I have a 2TB drive with several partitions. If I need to format the C:\ drive I copy anything I need to keep over to one of the other partitions. This includes mainly my Users folder which contains things like Favourites (Bookmarks), Pictures, Documents and music. Also any other folders I need to keep will also get copied across.

What Pat says is absolutely true. Your User folder is one of the most important items to save. Microsoft Outlook has your email and contacts in there as well. Not a bad idea to back this folder up every now and then.
