• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

Hey, I figure if they can rewrite parts of history I enjoyed, somebody can rewrite the ending of Gettysburg. Any of you guys actually Stephen King?

much of the political side of that war was re-written from the start. sadly, southerners have bought into the inaccuracies as much as the yankees. it is rare to meet someone who has a grasp on the true motivations behind what happened.

The ACW started fuming toward cessation as early as 1852, when South Carolina wrote out their reasons for cessation. In their interest, yes it had to do with the abolition of slavery should the Republican Abolitionists ever take the office of the Presidency. There were many other reasons for the cause, much to do with the rights of states to make their own decisions versus that of a central government doing so, as the Constitution was written.

It was a complicated time in our nation's history and both sides had their rights and their wrongs. Sadly, to a great extent much of why we are a nation divided in political partisanship today is over reasons that caused the ACW.
