OT: PT Boats - Knights of the Sea - video

BeauBrummie

Home for tea and tiffin!

I've posted this game before as it's relatively new,

"Battlefront.com, an independent internet-based publisher for superior war and strategy games and one of the internet’s largest wargaming communities, and Akella, one of Eastern Europe’s leading development and publishing houses, proudly announce that the official English game version 1.1 of their innovative naval simulation PT Boats: Knights of the Sea has just been released for download!"

A good review can be found here

I bought it because of these boats the Fairmile D class MTM/MGB. Despite it's limitations and idiosyncracies of the game, I enjoy dipping in and out of it.

Yes it looks great. The game engine has been used by Akella for a number of naval sims. the boats are great and the crew animation adds a ot of immersion. Some of the game play is annoying and stupid inaccuracies like these MTB's/MGB dog boats being numbered like motor launches, ie ML ***, rather than MTB*** or MGB***. There is a promised Mission builder this year, but we'll see as there is no deadline for that. Having no single mission mode, only campaign means you have to unlock missions before you can play the next. It mixes first player sim with a tactical mode. Many of the missions have you controlling several vessels including destroyers, cruisers which detracts from the first person fighting. However this gives you more control of the mission than CFS3 does, but not as realistic if you just want to captain your boat. The boats have repair capability and the crew play a part in this.

Overall if they cracked the mission builder and give you flexible quick combat I'd really love it.

But I really want my CFS3 MTB's to work. maybe I ought to learn GMAX and build my own Dog boats!

I have had a quick look at the Demo. The thing that disappointed me the most is that there didn't seem to be a home base. This is what I liked about my CFS3 MTB missions. Leaving the dock and motoring down the river. To me, it gave a sense of realisim that seems to be missing in this game.

I think the models by and large are great. But as Greg said the rest lets it down. So far i've found that all missions start in mid ocean. No sign of any bases. Having no mission builder has put a lot of people off.

I agree with Greg's comments about leaving from harbour. See my video of MTB's leaving Grand Harbour in Malta.
