there is another company who actually disassembles it properly in order to list the components and their manufacturer. i don't remember who they are. however, the fcc released a partial list, against apples wished, a while back

I don't get it.

I know we could pull down the books and find some phsycological explaination, but I still wouldn't get it. What a dumb shame. It's just not one magic moment with some electronics and a baseball bat....it's an outlook on life that's been carved into a young person's mind.

I can't imagine what treasures the world has in store for those kids as they move out into adult life...

Yeah, because it prob only has about a $100 in parts but cost more than $500 to buy one...

What's really so sad about that is it again shows how so many teens today have such a total disrespect for the notion of working hard for something and then cheerishing it. Thomas Paine so rightly said, "What we obtain too cheaply we esteem too lightly!"

What concerns me about the hyper-consumerism society we have created is its associated sense of entitlement. When you combine a value system that so cheapens achievement along with a sense of entitlement, it portends a most dangerous and sad phase for society.

I can only hope teens today wise up! Nothing in life is really guaranteed. If some teens today live thinking otherwise, it is only because their forefathers worked very hard to earn a life for them that has caused deep confusion. Unfortunately, that sacrifice is also something they neither appreciate nor esteem!

What then happens when society begins esteeming their material possessions too highly?

The iPad is the posterchild of conspicuous consumption. The price is highly publicized, the thing is gargantuan and polished to reflect sunlight into the eyes of common peasants who dare look at your iCodpiece. Its ridiculous to feel anger over something like this. Who is the dummy here? Are they idiots for publicly destroying it, or are they geniuses? You are the ones getting upset over it, and spreading the video.

Well, obviously then it could lead to greed. But, provided no laws were violated, it really would not be our place to make such a judgment. Certainly good to keep it in mind for ourselves and loved ones, but not really suitable for us to judge strangers. Certainly, I would rather accept the chance of greed in private property than to advocate laws to deny property otherwise earned and legal.

However, all concepts taken to extreem are to be avoided. Of course, simple pride in ownership is to be encouraged even as some others could believe it materialistic. However, without question I would rather have people cherish a bit too much what they own vice reckless and senseless destruction of property.

However, at least they bought this iPad, which makes their conduct legal as opposed to vandalism.

In summation to my point, if they had a desire to immediately part with the property they just purchased, it would have been a noble option to donate it to charity! At least that way the device could bring benefit to humanity.

This thread reminds me of a NASCAR race I watched a couple years ago. It was in Nashville TN. The trophy for winning this race was a beautiful Gibson electric guitar (Nashville, see?) Well, the winner this time was a very young racer, Kyle Busch. He decided he wanted to celebrate his victory by destroying the guitar in the same fashion as those totally awesome rock stars, when they wack their guitars to destruction at the end of the concert. I thought it was borderline horrifying. I am evidently the only one. Everyone, talking head race announcers, racing media types, and racing fans here at the SOH, thought his exuberance with winning was cute and admirable. Even the man who hand crafted the guitar in the first place evidently (in public anyway) thought it was “cool”. I just don’t get it.

I would've cried. That's not cool!! I'm sure it was a super incredible special edition from Gibson's luthiers in Nashville, too. Any pics?
