Ouestion about free sapce cleaning

I just used Eraser by Heiedi as recommended bt OBIO and after, my hard surface runways ,lost part of their textures ,turning black but still with the markings. You could see as you took off part of the texture going ahead of the plane but everywhere the plane took off from the texture of the runway was black. From the air the adjoining runways were the correct color but if you changed the plane to that runway it would also turn black with partial textures going ahead in bands in front of the plane.
This happened at all airpports with hard surfaced runnways. I had to find new hard surface runway textures from Flight Sim and now everything is back to normal.
Why would cleaning freespace,(which took forever) cause this? It almost had to be caused by that as the runways were fine before I cleaned the freespace.
Any ideas?

I've used Eraser to wipe free space many many times and have never had any problems as a result. I'm sorry your experience turned out otherwise....I'm clueless as to the cause or the solution.

OBIO , i'am not blameing you at all, it wasn't your fault, whatever caused it only happened to FS9 ,I checked my other flight sims on the C/drive and they seemed unafffected, and even the only problem with Fs9 was the hard surfaced default runways. I would like to know what caused the textures to partly become corrrupted but I got it fixed now. Don't blame yourself.

How did you get it fixed, so others can fix theirs too. If you remember how?
 
downloaded new textures

The only why I fixed the problem was download new hard surface runway textures from FlightSim. The first set I didn't like cause they were too dark, on the runway the plane was setting on ,adjacent runways looked fine but if you switched to that runway it too turned dark. So I went back and downloaded a different set ,I think the file name is repwytx.zip and though not perfect( you can see the runway teture sllightly change as you progress down the runway at normal speeds, It's not noticeable at 1/4 or slow speed)they are much closer to the default runway tetures and look better.
 
This may or may not relate but the catch area for Arrestor Cables is comprised of a length, width, direction and thickness. That thickness I think is there to account for small height differences between the area and the deck or surface where the area is situated. If the area had no thickness, its height would have to be exactly the same as the surface it belonged to to work. I'm therefore wondering if Hurricanes glitch, whatever caused it, was fixed by an addon surface texture that incorporated a similar thickness fudge factor. How's that for armchair theorizing? Doesn't this also get into the default 'hard coding' of airport hard surfaces?

I don't really understand how arrester cables have anything to do with what happened because I made no changes to any ships that have arrester cables and the ships that have them, even though I don't have an arrester cable program, are unaffected.Mainly what caused it to happen in the first place after running the free space wiper?
Sorry I don't understand but maybe your on to something although I don't know what.
 
I alwys forget something

Putting the new textures in although much better that the first ones I tried,(can't remember the name, didn't totally fix the problem, as I said before if you look close at the runway ahead of the plane as you take off at normal speed ,you can see a faint line going ahead of the plane where the texture very gradually changes, this is not noticeable at 1/4 speed or at slow speed settings.
I usually fly at 1/4 speed anyway or even slow speed because my CH pedals are so sensitive that it's ,depending on the plane ,almost impossible to keep on the centerline.
 
That's Ok, I just tossed it out as a possible connection to the texture problem. Don't pay any attention to it, the main thing is that you've almost got it fixed right? If the texture is all there but as you say it gets fuzzy at a certain distance that keeps up with the plane, there may be something else running that is using processor power. Have a look and close anything you don't need. There are a few forum posts that go over basic things that can speed up your game. What are your specs and what kind of FPS numbers do you get?
 
older vid card

Although one bottle neck is an older ATI 128 vid card 9800 pro ,since I'am not made of money as long as it's working ok ,I'am running it till it quits. I run a 10 year old Dell Demension 8250, Intel pentium 4 at 2.80 GHZ, 1.5 GB RDRAM 2, 2oo GB hard drives with a Seagate 2 TB external HD for back up.
I never noticed the texture change going ahead of the plane before though ,but like I said it's slight and not noticeable at 1/4 or slow speed options.
Oh and I run a 4x DVD+RW combo drive and get about 20 fps ,I have most sliders cut back , and HAVE to run FS9 in msconfig(clean boot ) or I lose textures, so I don't think there is much running in the backround, and apart from the occasional stutter it runs surpriseingly well.
