"The one with the beautifull nose"??? The one with the greek nose ya mean??? :bump:

Nice edit there Rowdy!! Tell us what you did to make it work in FSX please??

Hi guys I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't get the data ready, but I will start a thread soon about how to Port-it over....

I don't think any Me109 pilot would ever think the Spitfire was a joke, not for long anyway. :ernae:

As for Hurricane or Spitfire, it was always a team effort, the best combination came from the more rugged and numerous Hurricanes making the bombers life a misery, while the Spitfires dealt the Me109 escorts :pop4:

Great edit Rowdy :applause:

*burns-his-mouth-mode on*

Yes, it is.
Or as one British pilot has put it "the sky wasn't enough to roll the Spitfire" or the other "turning doesn't win battles".

Nice edit nonetheless.

When comparing Spitfires with its contempoaries it entirely depends on what Mark Spitfire ..the same goes for the Bf-109 (its not a ME-109)..and yes great edit!

Hi guys,

sorry to disappoint, but I'm remainig away from home till tommorow, so expect the new thread then (UK time).
cheers

Not according to Alex Henshaw the chief test pilot, and he knew a bit about flying!

The Hurricane was the 'grunt' of the air war during the Battle of Britain.

Edit: I didn't see the second page, so my reply is to the last post on the first page! :d

According to eyewitness accounts (of which I have just been reading yet more, following the republication of a book that I was waiting for), it was never "Hurricanes versus bombers, Spitfires versus fighters", more "You, you and you, you're taking on that formation. The rest of you, follow me!"

Hurricanes very regularly got the better of Bf109s, bombers regularly shot down Spitfires and vice versa. The main thing about the air war in 1940 was that it was meticulously planned at Squadron level, but the fights were anything but organised. A Squadron might start in formation and maybe fly one formation attack, but if they even completed that one it was a miracle before it turned into single aircraft versus whatever was in front or behind it. Was the Spitfire, the Hurricane or Bf109 "the best"? No. None of them were. They all had strengths and weaknesses and skilled pilots could use all to their advantage. Even the Bf110 had its good points, although not many and they usually ended up in defensive wheels while being used as machine gun fodder for whatever found them.

I'd agree with Peter on the FCS Hurricanes, though - they're the best we have available for FSX right now. Although personally, I'd get Hawker Heroes instead, which has "the wrong" Hurricane, but a couple of other very nice models as well. Even the Tiffie is growing on me and that's the weakest in the pack.
