This weekend I decided to go for a bit of a trip round a few of the local 'dromes.

Deciding to start from Oulton I wondered why the airfield was surrounded by quite large hills. I had a look at the map, zoomed out and found that Norfolk had been relocated!

Apollo 13 the crisis is over

Gentlemen,

sorry for answering that late but I am on leave and had only sporadic access to the net.

Actually there were an Ouston and an Oulton.
RAF Ouston was located near Newcastle on Tyne and Oulton was a RAF base near Aylsham in Norfolk. I haven' t checked but if I recall correctly I made Ouston and not Oulton. But that could be corrected when I am back in buisiness.

Cheers

Achim

Good call, Achim. That base is basically where Katterick ? was, I think...

Thanks Achim. Ouston is definitely a new one on me though and having looked it up I know why.

My interest in that area of the UK ends with the Battle of Britain when the fighter Sector Station was Usworth, which was replaced by Ouston in 1941.
