Out of available memory

Well, I've run into my first glitch with FSX. I changed the graphics toward the top end of the scale in the sim and was flying Ants Airplanes T-28A when we stopped in the water - or is that air - and I got a msg saying I had run out of available memory. I'm running an AMD Phenom II X4 940 processor using an AMD Radeon 6850 video card, 3.25 GB total memory with 2.33 GB of free memory. Time to install more RAM - if I'm going to stay toward the right side of the sliders in FSX?

There are lots of info on this issue if you do a google seacr.

FSX is 32 bit and limited to 4 gig of ram.
If you have 32bit OS getting more than 4 gig of ram is a waste system cant use it. 4 gig is a 32 bit limitation.
If you have 64 bit os 8 gig is more than ample, as FSX can only use 4. 64 bit just gives you access to the full 4 gig.
OOM is a VAS not RAM issue. Do a search.

Yep, rather than buying more RAM (doubtful that will solve your OOM problem), you'd be better off investing in Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer. DX10 allows the GPU to do more, thus taking some of the work load from the CPU. Also, using DX10 in FSX makes OOM's a rarity (a few folks have suffered from OOM's in DX10, but they are the exception and not the rule). Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer makes configuring the sim for DX10 easy-peasy.

For solving this problem only lowest settings or NASA PC.
So I chose the lowest settings as here:

Just picked up Steve's DX10 Scenery fixer for about $33.00 US - a fair chunk of change. Got it installed and upon startup, get a dialog box with the following msg:

"The procedure entry point SHGetStockIconInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.dll."

After that the program shuts off. Not sure where to go from here.

I would go and ask the same question here

If you have lots f scenery you can use scenery config editor to break it up into blocks around the world, I have to and also means it loads quicker.
