hi..im wondering..would an OV-10 bronco...with maybe a full loadout of external fuel tanks..be able to reach Hawaii from say Sacramento international? or maybe SFO?

i was day dreaming and thought that would be a fun flight....im sure youd need a urnal bag...or soething..but wouldnt that be cool? specailly if you could fly at a low elevation

Nice to see this great bird might get a new lease of life! In the meantime, Piglet's OV-10 is a beautiful plane, no idea on range! (Good 'ol Wikipedia says 1382 miles) :salute:

There is a freeware gauge, made for FS9, called RKG_fuelstat. It will show you "time to empty", range at current altitude and power settings, fuel flow, and a couple more. With it, you can climb up to cruise alt and you can see exactly how far you can go. A very useful gauge.

The AFSD utility also has a fuel tab to keep track of fuel used, remaining, specific fuel consumption and real time range to empty in both NAN (Nautical Air Miles) and ground miles.

Going to Hawaii you are generally bucking headwinds at any sort of altitude. Probably have to go to some altitude to get the best range....

As I recall the OV-10 had a rear cabin that could be used for litter casevac, so this could be a location for additional ferry tanks.

As I recall from the time I worked on the OV-10 there wasn't any way to put fuel in the fuselage and plumb it into the fuel tanks.

I made that trip, leave from MRY to ITO 2315 miles. Took about 6.5 hrs in a P-51H with two long range wing tanks .. and a sore arse. Add extra fuel then just take off and use enough power for a 200 FPM climb rate, until you get some alttude, set the GPS turn on the AP and enjoy one long flight. I used the tweak program to add extra fuel to the P-51
