Hey Bruce, this might interest you also.
Setting up the retardant dump switch. Make sure you added the SOH-S2TCDF retardant effects including sound.
Open the aircraft.cfg file and add the last four lines light.5 thru light.8 in the [LIGHTS] section. This will tie it to the taxi lights.

light.2= 7, -4.0, -25.00, 0.50, fx_Shockwave_landing_light

Flip the switch up will activate the retardant dump and you should hear a rushing sound. Once the sound is done, flip the switch down for the next drop.

For the engine smoke effects, you will need a smoke effects gauge. Link:
http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/15397/fsx-beechcraft-18ds-auto-smoke-gauge/
Follow the Readme/Installation text file and you are set. You can change the timing of the smoke by changing this number in the xml file.
In the example throttle to 60%+, will activate smoke.
Example: A:GENERAL ENG1 THROTTLE LEVER POSITION,percent)
60 > if{ (>K:SMOKE_ON) } els{
NOTE: KBT TEAM... any possibility of a dedicated cockpit switch for the fire retardant dump?
