P-3 Thread continued...

Mystery Solved

Okay....I have the answer to what that decal is on the P-3 Prop?
My brother who works with P-3s at NADEP JAX sent me this picture of the mysterious decal.
So Jens, hope you can repro this on the props of your repaints.

My investigative work here is done. Ta daa!!! :adoration:

The triangular logo on the props is the Overhaul Decal from Pacific Propeller Inc.
You can see it at:
http://www.pacprop.com/videos.html
Video #3 at 2:30 mark.

PPI had the overhaul contract for P-3s for many years. They did an excellent job for "relatively" cheap.
If the prop is completely rebuilt by Hamilton Standard it gets the Oval Decal.
Sometimes FRCs stick on their decal when the I level propshop works on it.

Fritz

Bingo! Thanks for you very helpful input. I thought the NADEP JAX did all the O/H work, now it looks like the NAVY contracts that work out to PPI.
So when the blades become high time, PPO reworks them (saw the PPI video) and zero times them till high time again. Don't know what the TBO
(Time Between Overhaul) is for a P-3 Prop Blade.
Very Interesting......:untroubled:

Hamilton Standard

Here is a picture of a rather faded rustic looking Hamilton Standard Decal
Might look good on some P3 repaint props for that old time effect. This picture
was taken directly from the prop.

Ahhh, The Bravo is out!

That was the first P-3 I ever had my hands on, P-3B Mod. Rule #1 for an AO on an Alpha or Bravo, "make sure the F**king passengers don't put their F**king luggage on the F**king sono pack. ( Direct quote from my Sea Daddy and mentor Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Gary Thompson _ hope doing well)

Sea story...
My reserve unit sent me and some other members to NAS Moffet so we could work with one of our gaining commands VP-9. As we were being shown around one of 9's birds the Lt giving the tour apologized for the aircraft being "only a Charlie, not an Update III". At that a certain, slightly inebriated AO3 chirped up with " That's okay Lt, it's better than that piece of crap Bravo we rode up on" ( not telling who that AO3 was, but you can guess :playful:) I can still see the look on our Div O's face when that was uttered, I got off the hook because I was the only one asking intelligent questions about the Charlie we were in. Still got a talking to by the Div O, as my LPO had had more hydraulic lunch that I did.

Now question, will the skins for the Charlie's work on the new Bravo release? I can see a Trident Bravo in my future if they do. ANd KBT thanks for all your hard work bringing out the whole Orion family, it's much appreciated by P-3 alumni like myself.

PPI Prop Logo

I hope Jens is not to upset but I managed to paint on the PPI Prop Logo. I wanted to see if I could do this.
If there is enough interest, I can up load. I may do the Hamilton Standard Logo.
Trying to get a consensus if I should upload this modification to the props. :adoration:

Was the ladder on the P-3B manual or electrically actuated? On VP-67's P-3B's, they were manually operated.

The difficult operation was successful. Polygon un-forming of a sonar launcher and correction of texture assignment were successful by this operation.
The hole looks three-dimensional by this operation.

The upgrade accumulated until now is due to be released as V33.

KBT;
First thanks for the great work.
Since you are continuing to improve the P-3, there are a few areas that need attention:

Spinners. Too fat and too pointy.
Mad Boom end. Too pointy. Real one has a rounded end.
Antenna shadows. They are a bunch of blobs on the fuselage.
Lights:
The P-3 has two strobe lights. One red/white on top and one red/white on bottom. Red at night, white in day. 1 per sec flashrate. Current light locations are good but the flashes are off.
Wingtip lights. Red on left, green on right. NON flashing. Currently correct.
Tail lights. One white on top of aft radome just aft of the rudder, the other on the bottom front of the aft radome. NON flashing. Currently not visible.
Landing lights. Two white between engines 1/2 and 3/4. Bottom of wing just in front of the flap. Rotate downward to point forward. Currently they shine through the wing.

The VC. The original 2.9 VC was incredible. This version has nothing to do with a P-3 cockpit. I wish I could use the 2.9VC with this P-3 version.

Thanks

Fritz

Fritz;
Thank you for the information.

Spinners.
An extreme correction is always difficult though it has already been corrected by the point of Adrian of NZFF in V33 (later release).

Mad Boom end.
I correct.

About lights.
Although that you have told can understand me in general, if a picture shows, an intention will be transmitted correctly.
About the light, P-3K2 created to NZFF has added description of a light in Aircraft.cfg.

About VC.
VC is provisional.
Of course, I think as well as you.
Time and skill will solve it.:wavey:
