P-38 freeware

Aeroplane Heaven/Just Flight model has a free package - it is not time limited demo or anything, it's a full plane to entice you to buy the whole package.

It's at justflight.com

It is done by AH and is a very nice model with a good VC. I love it FS9, but it is not FSX SDK compiled and has the usual portover issues in FSX.

according to that page it is fsx/sp2 compatible it is not a native fsx model. for $36 i would want native. i rarely even do free portovers.

Hi all,
Look for DCC's P38's.There is a conversion package for them for FSX somewhere. They are really nice models.

if the copley ones have been converted to fsx native, that is truly good news indeed! i will search for them, thanks!

I downloaded the Justflight demo and gave it a go...
I was quite impressed! I only think it has the prop-cloud SP2 issue, but only in external view. Certainly flies sweet! Will be a keeper for me!:ernae: Thanks guys for letting us know about it!

I too downloaded and installed the demo. It has no 2d panel which I like. The canopy even shows up in SP1. I am making myself a 2d panel. The guns are neat! I'll fly it for a while before I decide if I want the full package. Regards, Bob.

I downloaded the Just Flight P-38 for FSX. The sounds are the same as David Copely's freeware P-38's. The cockpit is far more detailed, but when you place the mouse over a hot zone you are reminded that this is actually a port over from FS9; the little window pops up and the text is garbage. This is also a frame rate hog. I normally get 23-24 fps with native FSX aircraft and 20-21 with most FS9 port overs, but this one drags me down to 15-19 fps. It's ok, but I would not pay for it unless it was truly an FSX aircraft, that means all the textures are in .dds format and the pop up text over the hot zones displays correctly.

Stansdds, I'm not having this text issue, maybe 'cause I'm using DX9? Getting good framerates too. But agree, if it's not true FSX we would be buying "last season's model"! :icon_lol:

Are you guys using the demo or did you buy it? I am wondering if the real thing is any better. I only see the gauges that are called out in the manual with the demo. All the other gauges seem to be dummies. Maybe in the demo they are all not functional. It does look like a portover and not 100% FSX. If it is it's not worth the money. Regards, Bob.

That's because it is a portover and is not even 1% FSX...

I hope that doesn't stop another developer from doing the P-38. If it does, that is a huge shame. We need an a2a Glacier Girl ;)

It does fly sweet.

I also downloaded the Demo and though I would have paid for this for FS9, I will not for FSX. the A2A Thunderbolt has spoiled me, anything less is, well, not worth the bang for the buck. The bitmaps textures of the P-38 for FSX without bump or spec textures are bland.

Not to put down on the folks that made it , this is one fine FS9 airplane and well worth the payware for that sim, but not for FSX.

But for me, I'll wait until an FSX native P-38 comes alone, with bumps and specs and hopefully a Paint Kit!

In fairness to the people that offered this fine demo download, I uninstalled it from FSX, I feel it is not fair to pan someone's product and continue using it free.

i fly the copley ones in fs9 all the time. probably more than any other in that sim, including briefing time, which i paid for.
i don't fly fighters much, they're not really my thing, but that one is fun to fly, period. honestly though, part of it's appeal for me is what you get when you hit shift+5.
