Milviz P_38L Italian Air Force 3 Stormo 3-12.zip

170015313823488260.jpg

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category P3D / P4D Add-Ons - Warbird repaints

Description: This folder contains a repaint for the MIlviz P-38L, representing P-38L MM4260 3-21 as flown by the 3 Stormo of the Italian Air Force. After the war, Italy received 120 P-38s in an agreement dated April, 1946. Those heavy fighters, mainly P-38Ls, but also F-5s, were put in service in 4 Stormo. They flew reconnaissance missions over the Balkans, as well as ground attack, naval cooperation and air superiority missions. Delivered after a one-month refurbishing, they finally were all sent to AMI not before 1952. Other wings, like 3 Stormo, used the P-38 as well. Due at the big dimensions of this fighter, the old engines and pilot error, a very high number of P-38s, sadly, were lost in accidents. At least 30 crashes of P-38s in Italian service claimed a number of victims. Despite this, many Italian pilots liked the fighter, due to its excellent visibility on the ground and its stability at take off. Finally, P-38s were phased-out in 1956. Today, no Italian P-38s survive, nor even a single component from one, as these aircraft, with the value of light alloys, were quickly dismantled.

Milviz P-38L RAAF A55-1.zip

756715313845576480.jpg

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category P3D / P4D Add-Ons - Warbird repaints

Description: This folder contains a repaint for the MIlviz P-38L, representing A55-1 of the RAAF, 1943. In order to meet an urgent RAAF requirement for photographic reconnaissance, three P-38Es were transferred from the USAAF for service with No 1 PRU. The first Lightning, A55-1, depicted here, was received on August 31 1942, and operated successfully until it was written-off in a landing accident on August 2 1944 at Coomallie Strip. The second aircraft, A55-2 had a less spectacular career and operated only between 4 Sep 42 and 18 Dec 42, and was phased out of service on the latter date. The third Lightning, A55-3 was received from the USAAF at Eagle Farm on February 27 1943 and operated throughout the year until it was written-off in a wheels-up landing on December 10 1943.

The aircraft of this repaint, A55-1 was originally F-4-1-LO serial 41-2158. I have found pictures of it in camouflage paint as well as in bare metal, and it is the latter that I have depicted. It shows 59 mission markings on the picture taken at Coomalie Creek, which I assume was late in its career with the RAAF. Although the original was a P-38E/F-4 and the Milviz model is a P-38L, I thought people would still like this repaint.

Good morning,

Jankees and others...I am trying to balance all of these uploads with allowing space for other sim uploads. So what I have done is gone through the warbirds repaints section and sorted the files by their original release date in the download itself. So if they drop off the main page, they have not been deleted, they are still in the library.

And, you can now access any one of these uploads by clicking on the accompanying link provided in this thread.

NACA test pilot Scott Crossfield flew the F-100A during the late fall of 1954 to determine the flight boundaries where inertial coupling could occur. This did not go completely as planned, more on that flight here: http://www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/52-5778/. The repaint depicts the aircraft as it looked after it was repaired.
