Apparently this is mentioned in the P3D forums already but I guess the people who only read the FSX forums may be interested in the news that P3D version 2 appears to have been released today.

You'll note that the price is now $60, rather than the $50 of the previous version.

Well they have improved it... it would seem only logical that better costs more. This isn't competeing for price in comercial games markets... its an education/comercial product... they charge relative to the development cost and people that need it pay it.
