P3Dv2 and Real Weather

Been holding off purchasing P3Dv2 until I upgrade my video card. As this will probably happen sooner than later I am wondering if Real World Weather is supported of do we still need something like AS or REX.

Orion is on it. Its just like 1.4 concerning getting live weather going. REX4 sounds like they are really on things.

I have no problem loading REX into P3Dv2, I installed REX and point it at P3Dv2 in the configuration panel. No problems.

The combination of the real weather, and the P3Dv2 engine is pretty awesome Pat.
I haven't had a go with the new REX 4 so I can't say much about that.

I have both REX and Active Sky. I prefer AS at the moment as I know it works in P3Dv1.4. Problem is that both are real pigs to get working with the RTW Duenna. And we have the RTW race fast approaching. Maybe John will have an update to get it working with a 3rd party engine.

Just to note that REX4 does not include a weather engine, just textures. In FSX I used a combination of ASE and REX3 so far. I have REX4 now and also bought the latest AS version, ASN. The two of them together work wonders in FSX imho. ASN is supposed to be fully compatible with P3D V2 as well but the link is not yet complete. According to the AS people the licence will be valid when this happens. I am looking forward to it as it is supposed to be available very soon.

So the version that says it's for P3D isn't compatible with Ver2? I was going to purchase it until I read your post.

A little something that came to my attention is the fact that Orbx airports are recommended at 5m resolution , anything below or above may produce anomalies. REX4 requires 1m resolution for proper wave animation .

I use both but REX has to give way to Orbx . The sea still looks OK

That is true Ed. They are currently working on and testing the P3Dv2 version. I was holding off too but I finally got it as I like the new features and they specifically state that when the P3D version is out the licence will be valid for both sims. I also got the upgrade offer as I own ASE, which does not work in P3D anyway.

So how does ASN and REX interact since ASN has no graphics addon? Do you just direct ASN to use the textures supplied with REX or do you have to run REX as well as ASN to get them to co-exist?

REX4 runs just once to install the textures into FSX/P3D (replaces defaults) and then is closed. You can run it again if wish to try a different texture set (there are many options in REX). These textures are used then all the time in FSX/P3D, regardless of running a weather engine.

ASN will just inject the real weather, using the textures installed.

Thanks. I'm currently trying the freeware FSrealWX utility, which seems to work quite well, however I am noticing that no matter where I fly, every landing is done with almost zero visibility, lol. I know the weather can be fickle, but I doubt that every airport has fog, lol.

According to the Active Sky Next Forum, the P3D Ver2 version of ASN will possibly be ready 2 to 3 weeks after the LM update for ver2 is released. They foresee some tweaking due to the updates that will be released and they'll have to take a look at those and make the necessary changes before releasing. I'm thinking March before anything is released. Actually, this has probably saved me $50. I would have jumped at it had it been available already, but I've been using REX 2.0 and perfectly happy with what I get from it. I'm not a huge fan of fine tuning weather/winds/icing/turbulence, etc. . .setting up specific weather patterns and so on. Normal weather is unpredictable enough as it is, lol.
