panel question

is there a way to exclude the VC view in the fixed windows in the panel.cfg file?
should i add any entry with the text editor?

Gius,

Try adding the following to your panel.cfg file and then match each view line up with your extended view bmp file. This example is from the Real Battle Panel for the stock MS P-39 before Bruce Thorson discovered the basic VC that was contained in the model. This method is also used for Roy Chaffin's B-25. It doesn't have a VC so it is a good method for such a plane.

Note that the "Fixed Window" lines match up with the [Fixed Window] paragraphs below the [WindowXX] paragraphs.

Each [Fixed Window] mates up to a corresponding .bmp file of the title shown in the paragraph.

Example:

VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_WINDOWS=30 <<--- points CFS 2 to Fixed Window 30 below

[Fixed Window30]
file=39FR.bmp <<--- .bmp title and file for the front right view (see screen shot below)

You will see right away when you look at the complete panel.cfg file below.

Fixed windows are modified, fixed views of the VC. The most basic version of a fixed VC view is the default views you get whenever you pan your joystick hat switch in 2D mode. The hatswitch down, up, front L&R, sides, rear L&R and rear views are all basically VC viewpoints.

What a fixed window entry does is give you the capability of enhancing these viewpoints for greater magnifications or less, or changing your eyepoint positioning as you view the world through these windows. You mod this by changing the postioning and magnification values in the entry sections for the fixed window in the cfg.

So to answer your question, no you can't eliminate the VC view from the fixed windows because the windows are the VC and the VC makes the windows. Now, can you delete the windows from the cfg and still have panoramic hat switch function? Of course...remember, these windows are just enhancement measures for the hat switch viewing.

Bearcat,
i've seen a Morton's panel (the one for the SG Betty) in which the fixed windows cohexist with the vc: so, what values i should add in panel.cfg to obtain the same result (obviously only in hat switch views)?
regards,
Gius

Sorry Gius...i may have spoken out of turn, but i didn't realise exactly what you were working with. I don't have that Betty panel so i'm completely in the dark on how to work the details of its fixed windows into another model. But it appears that Jagd has left you with some basic guidelines on working with fixed windows. You should study that and in the meantime contact Morton directly about tthe specifics of his Betty panel work.

thanks the same Jagd and Bearcat. i'll contact directly Morton, as you suggest

to Jagd:thanks for your help, but i already know how the fixed windows work in absence of a virtual cockpit, the question is how to make visible only the fixed windows and not the vc, but only in the hat switch views,
there is an extract of Morton's Betty panel including, i believe, the questioned entries:
