Parabellum MG14

Ravenna

SOH-CM-2023
Would one of our talented members be interested in making the Parabellum MG14 gun? I'm playing around with a couple of WW1 DPs and so far the gunners are stuck with British weapons. In my search for the Parabellum it struck me that we don't seem to have any German flexibly mounted machine guns for aircraft in either World War.

Thanks,
Michael

Allen, probably detailed enough to be recognisable:encouragement:. I know that there was a later model ( 14/17) which had no sleeve, just the narrow barrel so that would probably have a lower poly count. The earlier, and more commonly used model had a sleeve with holes which would probably bump up the poly count. Could the holes be made using an alpha channel?
Larry, Yep...it should certainly be useful. There are a few German WW1 2 seaters out there which would benefit from the addition of a Parabellum on its simple flexible mount.

Hi Allen, Just a little narrower in the gun barrel, otherwise that looks great. Late war model had a thinner cooling sleeve but your model looks a lot like the 14 model. The only thing missing is a "stick" mount just in front of the trigger guard. If you go to the Wing nuts site and have a look at the instructions for some of the German 2 seater aircraft you will see
some drawings of the gun and its mount. See link above. Thanks!

Very nice work Allen. Can a second model be created with a 'forward' orientation? I'm looking at an old model of the Gotha IV bomber which had guns pointing forward and backwards. I'm assuming your gun points backwards!

I added the parabellums to the DP of an old (FS2002 or 2000?) Gotha IV bomber. The weapons didn't show. I also tried adding a bomb load to the same model but the bombs didn't show up either. I recall years ago that there was a small prog which allowed ordnance and add on guns to show on/in earlier FS aircraft imported into CFS2. Does anyone still have this small converter?
Thanks for your last post Allen. I'll delete the original and add your new files today.

Just had a look at the Parabellum in the sim. Looking good:encouragement:.Is it possible to put a barrel inside the cooling sleeve?
I downloaded the convertMDL file from Simviation but it appears to be corrupted. Does anyone have this little utility?

Great job. :encouragement:

The cooling sleeve needs an inner part as well, since we should be able to see it through the holes.

Ravenna, I am looking forward to your Gotha conversion. There are too few WW1 multi-engine bombers available for CFS2. :wavey:
