Paris, je t’aime!

Jaxon

virtually there
One of the several projects I am fiddling with for some time now is a new sorted library containing all objects.

For this, I also checked the old CFS1 objects and dusted them off and enhanced them here and there for a use even ten years after CFS2 came out!

The objects are simple but still do their job. Like Sander has done for the London Landmarks, I have extracted the ones from Paris and turned them into own objects.

Now I have tinkered at them, that they appear much earlier and move through their LODs, just as I think, an object should to look to convince. This way, you can use them for orientation or panorama views. Out of the box, that wasn`t possible because the objects suddenly popped up in front of you only.

I made me a mission and placed the landmarks after Google Earth coordinates.
Plan is, to turn this mission into a GSL-Layer later.

But to finish this project finally I need some help.

But first some pics:

1) Heading west along the Seine right to Notre Dame
2) Le Louvre avec le Avenue des Champs-Élysées
3) Les Champs avec le Place de la Concorde et l' Arc de Triomphe
4) Looking back to the east

BTW: The plane is the Caudron by Bruno, the bridges are from a FS2000(?) pack, the Seine comes with Sanders landclass.

On the second pic, we have the Grand Palais with the Petit Palais, which were built for the Exposition Mondiale 1900 in Paris.
Beside is the bridge Pont Alexandre III of the mentioned bridges pack.
Together they are a well knwon ensemble of the Belle Époque.

On the first pick, we have the trouble:
I have 2 versions of the famous Basilique du Sacré-Cœur on the hill Montmartre.
The larger one came probably with the bridges, the smaller is the CFS1 object.
Obviously they have different sizes. How can I find out, which size is right in CFS2?
Is there something like a ruler, I can use for that?

Also all CFS1 objects have a size of 0.5 - maybe the other objects are not right scaled, too?

Finally we have Versailles, it looks ok - but I without the park, there is something missing, I think?

Paris

Ooh la la! J'aime Paris aussi et les photographies apparaissent grand Jaxon.

It will be nice to have Paris properly represented and to have the CFS 1 objects modified so that they appear and disappear properly in CFS 2.

Hi Jaxon,

Most of the CFS2 MDL's have a scale of 1.0 "I think" so you may be correct that the CFS1 objects are to small.

Hope this helps,
B24Guy

P.S. Looks good.:ernae:

I have built up a library of INFO folder screen shots for CFS 1 objects. If there is enough interest, I can upload it. In the meantime, if I send you the pack Jaxon, would it help?

Sure, Jagd!
I will see, if I have a use for each of them.

BTW: I have found a way to scale them right, at least for the tower-type buildings: I use their height for that.

Attached is a pic of the corrected Sacre-Coeur (at right)

Next are examples during the scaling-process for the Panthéon de Paris.

It has a height of 83m, what equals 272 feet + groundlevel of 131 ft = 403ft.

Height in CFS2 (scale 0.5) is just 376ft - groundlevel of 131 ft = 245 ft.

For correct height, I need to scale it up, using simple math: 0.555 is the new scale. See pic 2 of the corrected Panthéon-height..

The scale is different probably for all buildings:
- The Sacre Coeur was enlarged from 0.5 to 1.158
- The Notre-Dame was shrinked from 0.5 to 0.419
- The Tour Eiffel was surprisingly well scaled: 0.500 where 0.502 would be correct

..for example.

BTW: I have also lifted the ground texture used by some objects from height 0 to 1, so that it slightly is above the texture of the LWM-mask, this deletes the flickering effect.
But the area still has to be flattend. Result is to see on the Tour Eiffel pic.

What still bothers me is the dark shadow area of these ground-textures, like it is to see at the Champs-Élysées in the posts above.

BTW II: The dark aircraft is one of the new Do 17Z KAUZ nightfighters released by Thicko quietly through the back door!
These are musthaves!

Looking very good Jaxon. The bridges I have in place, but I have often wanted to see the landmarks in the correct scale. It would also be great to see a model of Saint Chapelle.

Relative or Absolute...

This might help you, depending on the software you are using:

FSDS2.24 produces objects in two scales for CFS and FS. The scale everyone uses is called Relative Scale and the value is 0.001. This gives accurate size in CFS2.

The other is Absolute Scale, but I've never seen it used to produce either a vehicle or object.

There is a third option labeled No Scale....again I've never seen it used.

:wavey:

Are your objects....

....'destroyable'? Do they have damage models? Just in case the Wermacht decides to defend the city.....:jump:

Lookin' good. :medals:

If I remember my Raw SCASM correctly we always used 0.1 to get the right scaling in CFS2. I'll double check on later tonight.....

There was a CFS1 Utility that could resize CFS1 objects and place them in BGL format to add on in different locations ,,, I think the author was Chuck Dome ,, perhaps still at simviation ,, The Utility works if placed in the root directory of CFS2 ,, providing the CFS1 objects were not taken out of your game ,,, would be a quick way to check scale size even if you choose to GSL the items after ... Looking it up I had it installed in scenery ,, Name was Stacfs vr 12.exe ,, I used it to resize and place the london bridge and other objects ,,,

No, I didn't remember that correctly, I've got stuff ranging from 0.001 to 1.000...... I'm starting to get a feeling it's going to be a long road back... Dear Lord have I forgotten a lot. I'm sitting here looking at some of the stuff I've done in the past trying to figure out how I did it in the first place......

Scaling Utilities

I found TWO Scale Utilities over on Simviation:

Setscalew.zip
scaleup.zip

One by Mr Dome, the other by an un named author.... Would either of these help ? They do not appear to modify the Collision bubble.....

Missing Screen Shots

Yes, most of the entries are up to a year old in this thread. We try to clean up old screen shots once a year and when they are deleted, they disapear from the fora.
