Is there a way of sinking a ship so that is it only part submerged,as in shalow water?

Yes there is!

Using a proggie like "instant scenery" you can actually lower a ship partly below the surface with no limit.....or even partly bank the ship!

Cheers

i have those dirtman,i was wondering if it is possible to alter some ship files so that they will not completely sumberge when sunk.

Scruff, you might want to ask this question over at the SOH's " Naval HQ. and Shipyard " forum. There are some very talented ship builders passing through that forum. I asked the same question before hoping in might be a simple DP or madel file adjustment . I pass on the sage advice I got:

" Collin, OHIO Project is looking great. Question , what data do you alter and where ( Dp file , ship cfg file, etc. ? ) to vary a ships entire model level to get " the deck awash effect" ? "

" Select all the parts in the fsds file and lower them down to the level I want......simples.
I'am now abusing the parts to reshape them to show damage and a different texture bmp has been added.

its for a pearl harbour mission,but would be cool to have for other missions.also,can ships be capsized?that would look awesome.and where can i locate the stock ships?

Hi Scruffbag

If you are confident enough to hand edit a mission with a text editor you can do the following:

In the mission file, if you add a ship as infrastructure, you'll find something like the following section (where the type_id will identify the particular type of ship):

[unit.25]
id=9283
type_id=3869
position_lat=S10 18.5054
position_lon=E150 20.0834
position_alt=+105
position_pbh=0.0,-10.0,100.0
damage=50

You can adjust the alt parameter for the altitude, and the pbh parameter to make the object list to one side, go down by the bow etc as follows:

position_pbh=0.0, = pitch, + to tilt by stern, + to tilt by bow
position_pbh=n.n,-10.0,n.n = yaw, + to port, - to starboard
position_pbh=n.n,n.n,0.0 = heading

Hope this helps

EDIT: forget to say too that you can do the same for aircraft as infrastructure. Playing with the 'damage' percentage can also have some interesting effects.

Editing a ships DP can adjust the way it sinks.
But you cannot make it sink differently in different depths of water. (CFS2 does not know about water depth)

It is not easy to get a ship to sink as you want or imagine it should, there are a lot of variables working together, it takes a LOT of trial and error to get the idea of how adjustments here and there effect the overall result.

If you are willing to play around with your ships go ahead; make a back up first, open the DP in wordpad and see if you can figure where to edit it, after editing delete any .cdp files before running the sim.
I wish you Good luck but don't expect to have it spelled out to you though.
If you can't see what to edit when you read the dp you should leave it alone.

Both Collin and Sully have posted ships in various states of sinking to sunk on their pages over at Fox Four/CG's Shipyard and /Sully's Ships.
