ive put gigs of ram,,i now have 2 gigs of video ram,,im wondering how would i check the pc to see what the CPU type/brand/make/whatever is?..im not afraid to dig deep into the system to look at things,,,att and amd have taught me alot in the past week about this...so did the girl from intel...but she wouldnt tell me how to tell what the CPU was,,,like the "pins"? and if it could be udated with a bigger/more powerfull one...

which leads me to...i know its a 2.4mhz cpu...the power supply...well i dont know on second though..imma look soon...but if the power supply can handle it,,would be worth updating the cpu?..

will it make game/sim play better?...

Dave, on my 4 year old Falcon rig I've got a nVidia GeForce GTX 285 (that at the time of build was a pretty good card), an i7 940 processor (2.8), runnning Vista and 12 gigs of RAM. FSX still had
microstutters and was really struggling with the Classic Hangars FW-190. I tweaked and tweaked but it still didn't flow smoothly like I wanted. Harleyman was a GREAT help in the FSX tweaking, and did a good job
of setting up the config file for me. Then, I started reading about overclocking and got
the advice of those here and Nick C over at SimForums and just did a basic overclock to 3.1.
This was the max I could do without having to adjust the memory settings, which was above my basic skill level.

Fired up FSX and it was way, way, better. Much smoother with the extra couple of ticks to the CPU. FSX seems to be CPU driven rather than graphic card driven.

For me at least, yes, I would do the CPU, too. I play other graphically-intense games, World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, etc., so the extra graphics power helps them. Were I to rebuild this machine
back 4 years ago, I would have sprung for the over 3.0 i7 in order to get the added horsepower for FSX. As it is now, it'll run the payware planes I have with good speed and I keep my sliders
in FSX about midway (resisting the temptation to push them further for the eye-candy). Hope this helps!
