pCARS-1 Year On!

Finally getting back in the swing of pCARS after all the moving house and new ISP hassles.
Things are advancing rapidly, shame about no GT40 but the Zakspeed Capri is a beast, even at this early stage.
I'm liking the BMW GT3 as well, but I'm liking the M1 more.
And Bathurst really looks like the real deal now!

New and improved drives and circuits coming all the time Ferry.
Really looking forward to the finished BMW M1, the sound is perfect.

I did a few laps in the Beamers when they were added and put the Huayra through its paces, but with my shoulder problems (Torn muscle) and busy times at work after that, I didn't drive a lot recenty.

The weather effects look good:

Maybe I'll give it a go this weekend.. In between the Brazilian GP sessions of course!

Ah, yes, pCars! Almost forgat how unbelievably good it looks !

Haven't done much racing lately ( i'm building a home cockpit, you see.... :) ). But it strikes me again seeing the screenies of the new cars ( haven't got 'em yet ) and yesterday having finally had a chance to have a first go at Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends. Yep, it finally has arrived for PC. ( got 23 bucks returned from DigitalRiver off my preorder i payed for many months ago. Nice touch.)

Hard to believe this game was created by the same devs as pCars. Cannot even stand in the shadow of pCars... I suppose if you're not familiar with pCars it's more or less Ok but personally i am pretty dissapointed with the look of the cars in TDFRL. That's certainly not the Ferrari 125 F1 brutal racing monster from the late 40's/early 50's i see there. That's nothing more than a plastic baby toy.... Very dissapointing indeed. ( have to say the 125 S looks a little bit better ).

Even more dissapointing, my fav Ferrari 156 F1 Sharknose isn't even featured. How could they leave that out !? Atleast there's the magnificent 1967 312 F1 but there's the plasticy look again too, even in the show room ( some models look pretty nice in the show room but you can only see the lower half of 'em !... )

Anyway, i'll have some fun with the campaign surely, i can atleast keep the car on the track and even win something. Not sure what that says about the drive models... Better not load up pCars before i'm done...

Thanks for the screenies, Wombat and Ferry ! :salute:

cheers,
jan

Great photos Ferry, love the story behind the re-built Ecurie Ecosse D-Type.
The building two 'Authentic' cars using parts from one was rife in the early part of the 1980s, it was going on well before that time but much less so.
It reached such a ridiculous scale (six cars from one wreck!!!) that the clubs in the UK came down so hard on the practice that a large number of these fakes were rendered almost worthless.
The Bugatti Owners Club dis-enfranchised many cars, as they were concerned about the law and fraud when people were paying very large sums of money for cars that were not genuine.

I member reading about the 'Swan Car' many years ago, I think the trail of whitewash blobs it left behind was a real 'Monty Python' touch.

The March 2-4-0 was one of the great money makers for the company, as a 'Mall Display Car'!
I recall the first Press viewing at Silverstone(?) on a wet track piloted by Howden Ganley, only one pair of wheels were driven and the car was really stable through corners, the Journos were most impressed.
Roy Lane ran it for a season in the British Hill-climb Championship, it was so unwieldy he converted it back to a four wheeler before end of season.
The best paint scheme I've seen the car wear was for Beta Tools, obviously a promotion.

:applause:

And I've invested in a copy of Ferrari Legends, it is rather ordinary but there are some nice Ferraris mixed in with some mediocre subjects.
At least I can cruise around in the better cars, but overall it pales in comparison to pCARS.
What a wasted opportunity.:173go1:

Thanks for the quick review of Ferrari Legends, Jan. I've seen a few other mixed review so far so I think I'll skip this one.. (Lack of time anyway!)
Do show us some photos of your home cockpit when it's done!

Will do. Momentarely struggling very hard to get everything setup in Prosim737. Phew!! Maybe easier to get a real 737 pilot license.. ;)

BTW Have you two seen my recent photo thread..? I think you'll find a few cars in there you might like: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?73987-Silberpfeile&p=767063

WOW!! Fantastic photos of some fantastic cars !! Did you shoot them ??... If so my photographer's cap is off to you, mate ! :salute:

Yes, absolutely love those 'Silberpfeile' ! Got the CMC W125 and W154 models which are truly exquisite. Hope to get the others as well someday. Must find some time and get overthere ! The other cars on display are something to drool over as well ! LOVE that little 'Fokhoven' ! And the Swan car video ! :costum:

Yes, i did miss your great photo thread, Ferry, thanks very much for the tip. Enjoyed it !! :ernae:

cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan, having an expensive camera which works well with higher ISO settings helps..

It's a shame the F.K.43 is no longer on display, I can think of a few other museums that would love to have it in their collection!
The old museum in Raamsdonksveer was good but this new place in Den Haag is really stunning. It's located in one of the better areas of the city, in fact the queen lives right next door! On the outside it doesn't look that big, but inside are three floors full of cars, from their own collection, the former autotron collection and the previously German 'Rosso Bianco' museum (http://www.hazelnet.org/rosso bianco/index.htm).

Really worth the 13.50 entree fee and the €5 for the parking (In their own garage; you can park right next to Luyendy'k's Indycar if you're lucky!) and the drive over there.
Oh and another €17.50 on a special book made especially for the Silver arrows exposition, which has great photos and good stories. The Silver arrows exposition runs until January 6th next year, so don't wait too long if you want to plan a visit.

I've seen those CMC models, but a little too pricy for me. AutoArt has some great models too, but prices are similar. The olny model currently on display in my house is the 1/18 Revell Auto-Union Type-C streamline, the car that killed Berndt Rosenmeyer. Not a bad model, and quite heavy.

Thanks for the info,Ferry ! Remarkable location for a museum ! Looks remarkable too. I was planning maybe going by train but this is build right alongside the highway.

Hope i can find the time before the 6th. The CMC models are pricey, yes, ( far from as much as Exoto though ! ) but worth every penny if you ask me. I buy them as sort of an investment, lovely to look at and probabely worth more over a period of time than the euro. :) Production of quite a few models gets discontinued sooner or later and the really impressive ones can easily become 'cult status'. While the CMC Mercedes W25 is still available in abundage you'll have to be very lucky to find the W125 for sale. ( i bought it from someone myself via Marktplaats, not from a shop ). I still can't get over how stunningly beautiful some of these diecast models look. I could never have reached that with my own build plastic models in a million years.

Again, kudos for your superb photography ! :applause:

Cheers,
Jan

I sure found mine.... but it fell off the tree the moment i touched it:

View attachment 78335

100 km p/h in first gear, that Ok ??...

Just installed the latest build. Took longer than a new FSX installation but sure worth it ! Holy Moly!!! :icon_eek: :isadizzy::jawdrop: :santahat:  :applause: ...and all that.

Didn't play pCars for quite a while and played some TestDrive FRL in the mean time of course but now with the latest version installed i am still waiting to wake up. This kind of extraordinairy graphical quality and no framerate impact whatsoever can't be true, can it ??

And i've only been fooling around in the Caterham sofar ( ok, and the GT40 but only to mow the lawn and cut down trees ). I have never seen digital car models look so incredibly amazing like i see them in the pCars showroom now. And it's not that they look significantly less spectacular in the game neither. Unbelievable, really !

Say, guys, what do you think, will there be one or two F1 companions/competitors for the Lotus 49 eventually ?

And thanks for HU ! I was missing all the fun ! :mixedsmi:

cheers,
jan

Does your Mk.IV have brakes..? :isadizzy: Mine seems to lack any capacity to slow down... :blind:

BTW If you didn't go yet: The Silver arrows exhibition is extended by four weeks, until February 3rd.

Mega pile-up in the Monaco harbor..:

Karts are fun:

pCARS2013-01-0420-46-11-64.jpg

At least the small ones are, the super karts are completely undrivable at the moment..

AI needs a 'bit' of tweaking...:

Brakes are fine now, seems better overall after the small update from 375 to 377.... Or could be i'm gettin the hang of it again, atleast a bit of it anyway . The biggest problem sofar seems to be to get thru the first corner without being thrashed into the vangrails by some AI aso.. :)

BTW If you didn't go yet: The Silver arrows exhibition is extended by four weeks, until February 3rd.

Good news! Thanks !

Quite a puinhoop you got there in Monaco.... :costum:

Quite a puinhoop you got there in Monaco.... :costum:

Yes, quite.. The exit of the swimming pool chicane is another bottleneck in Monaco, but other corners like the Rascasse and Loews hairpin are less of a problem.
It is fun though to watch the AI screw up every lap, just not if you want to do some serious racing. Start from last and watch the chaos unfold! I started from last in the race above but still managed to win because all other cars got involved in a crash...

I keep looking at pCars and maybe one day will step up.

My sons and grandson used to race Karts and I was president of the local club at one time.

We had a lot of fun with it and did quite well over the years with a few state championships and placed 3rd in the North American Karting Championships in Charlotte, NC one year at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Great family sport. :wiggle:

More cars have been added; this BMW M3 Group A at Zolder:

This thing is a lot of fun, the Ford Focus RS! Front-wheel drive but plenty of lift-off oversteer to play with :
