Whew! What a big week. ontop of the Noratlas, F-14D, Solomons, F-106... And its all freeware! A heartfelt B_Z to all the developers beavering away out there. What a community!

According to Mario on Simviation:

A true FS-X SDK compliant aircraft! DX-1 Tested. Not a FS-9 Port-over! This is a complete simulation of the Piaggio PD-808. It includes advanced engine management, realistic systems, and some failure modeling. The model features a complete 3-D virtual cockpit,and a 2-D panel. Sounds are included. The external model features all typical animations plus a load of custom ones. Also includes all custom special effects, including different selectable floodlights for the virtual cockpit (by simply flicking ON the proper light switch on the cockpit itself). Plus with a fly-on-the-numbers flight dynamics file. Includes full documentation.

im not much of a jet jockey,but this one is cool...i like ugly planes,cars (the edsel is a fav,),big ugly trucks..weird ships and boats..so this PD-808 fits...i saw one of these years ago in a magazine and never for got it...and we also got that SAAB 105 (is it?)
 
what an interesting little bird.. Part E-3, part citation, part something else entirely. A great looking bird that deserves a closer look for sure..
 
I tried this plane back when it was still in FS9 format. The model was superb and the virtual cockpit was one of the best ones I had seen !
The plane was also full of very interesting features for the realism and the immersion. A very VERY high level of quality.
The main problem of that FS9 version was a catastrophic impact on the FPS, which basically made it unflyable on my computer. Check Australia Post Catalogue and Jaycar Catalogue.
I hope this FPS issue is solved in the FSX-native version. I'm downloading it now, I will test it tonight.
 
It certainly has a weird 'cuteness' about it.... I've downloaded it to have a look.

External model is gorgeous, bit heavy on the bumps, but otherwise good clean texture, and well done, the model's nice too...

Internal: good model, texturing falls down at times.

Photo textures used in places and not always 'perfectly' corrected. Don't get me wrong, its up there with high quality freeware, but its not 'perfect'. I quite like it in all honesty, it bitches like hell if you even look at its systems wrong, and oh, yes, if you run the engines too hot for too long, they blow.... little cute 808 falls out of the sky... :p

FPS hit? what hit? nothing at all in fsx native... which is nice.


In all not bad. Worth keeping for when a leer just won't do.
 
Looks like someone stuffed up on 'pilot headroom'.....has the looks only a mother could love...;)

I had to park the last revision as well because of FPS. Love this jet .Good news! Its smooth and silky as gellato on a hot Ferrari. Just heavenly. all the switches right where I left 'em, drives like I remember. All the versions, special paint schemes, bump maps, pops a drag chute on the reverse key. Bravo Mr. Noreiga. A Douglas Long Beach design, but no takers on this side of the pond. I can see Saberliner and Jetstar what-if repaints....

Great model and complexity for freeware. The VC textures fall a bit short, but the dynamic checklist and that cold and dark setup button makes up for it. Deserves a sticky for sure.
 
Argh ! It's already the second day in a row that I forget to put that file on my USB stick to bring it back home ! My brain is getting old :/

This topic definitely needs to be sticky, as it's a very high level of quatliy freeware addon !

I could finally install the plane tonight and test it from Bowerman. Previous versions, in FS9 format, were simply killing my FPS so badly I couldn't even fly it correctly. This new version, which is in "native FSX" format (separate VC and exterior models, bumpmaps, self-shadows etc...) is fluid, and I could enjoy a fluid flight even with the bad local weather.

The VC is a real pleasure. Sure, the gauges are not in 3D but frankly I don't care, they are pleasant enough and they are readable. The "complexity" of the internal systems is really enoyable and provides a nice level of immersion and realism. The specific sounds are quite cool too. The exterior model looks very good (well, even if that plane look strange, to say the least) and the repaints are well done. The virtual cockpit could use better textures here and there, but it provides a good level of details and a unique point of view on the outside. The flight model coupled with the avionics make this plane quite challenging to fly, and the small test-flight to make these screenshots have been anything but easy, especially the approach and landing (but I had a bit too much fuel in the tanks).

Fortunately, the drag chute works perfectly :icon_lol: :isadizzy:

It is really a great model-teriffic value for the money(!) The systems modeling is just complex enough that the airplane can bite you, but not so much that you're sweating through a 2 week conversion course just to get the engines lit! I was digging through some dusty old tomes where I found statements to the effect that Douglas designed the aircraft primarily as a military utility aircraft, and the bulged cockpit contours were to provide the option of bang seats, roof hatches and direct vision windows-not taken up by Piaggio.
