Pentax K-5 DPReviewed

I've always liked Pentax.....
In fact, it was me meeting RedRiver6 in person & his Pentax DSLR that got me into my first DSLR :wiggle:

Something on that level will probably be my next DSLR.

I have used a PENTAX camera since I got my first while visiting a little garden spot in southeast Asia in 1970. :icon_lol:

Hey All,

Caz I had a draft number for that little garden spot but it ended before my number came up.

I bought my first slr in about 75 and it was either Pentax or Minolta - went with Minolta. Pentax was the next option. If I buy one and the chances are good that I will - especially since I got the Bank of Wife's approval yesterday - I'll simply be returning to what I almost bought 35 years ago.

You know what I really have loved about PENTAX cameras? I have never had one go foul on me! And they are tough too, I use to haul three at times at races, banged them around, always performed lest a battery goes dead. And in the 35-mm days, the battery only operated the meter. And you always kept a spare plus plenty of film.

My IstDL is still clicking, but in the hands of my brother right now. I wanted him to have a camera for his church's Christmas play and supper and to just have for Christmas. He can keep it for as far as I care, the K-x makes it a bit obsolete. But it still shoots a good pic, albeit only a 6-Megapixel sensor. And hey, he ain't heavy, he's my brother. Sorry Neil.

The newer PENTAXs come with a rechargeable battery, but still give the option of using AAs in an emergency. I like that feature too, try to do that with a Nikon, Canon, or other brand.

If PENTAX has any weakness, it is in auto-focus sharpness. For the best results on the DSLRs, I have found it best to use a Manual focus on subjects that I want a real sharp focus on.
