Another little gem over at BritSim along with several repaints.

Here are my Shockwave tweaks -- so far.

Aircraft.cfg Entries:

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=Taxi 7=
recognition 8= wing, 9= logo, 10= cabin

light.0 =3,-21.5,0.0,-0.15, fx_shockwave_navwhi

light.9 = 3, 0.40, -1.70, -2.20, fx_V12_IDLE_starb
light.10 = 3, 0.40, -1.70, -2.20, fx_V12_MAX_starb
light.11= 3, 0.40, -1.70, -2.20, fx_V12_Exhaust

Also did some bits with the effects:

[effects]
wake = fx_wake
water = fx_spray
dirt = fx_tchdrt
concrete = fx_sparks
touchdown = fx_tchdwn_s, 1
startup= fx_msd18s
//startup=fx_engstrt_provost
windshield_rain_effect_available = 1

Sounds best with Gary Jones' Leonides radial sound set also available at BritSim.

two very unimportant questions

I downloaded the beta Provost T-1 and both the update and the new sounds. one of the things the update is supposed to do is get rid of the other pilot with the Tail hook command ,mine doesn't do a thing to get rid of him. I have my tailhook assigned to button 3 on my CH Throttle Quad but although it works on planes that have tailhooks it doesn't do a thing to remove the other pilot in the Provost. Any idea why?
The other question should be a separate post ,but when I was checking out the Provost at night to make sure the prop disk wasn't black, ( it wasn't ) after the update, I noticed a reflection of what could only be caused by the moon on the water, but I couldn't find the moon.
I have Bill Lyons New water and it looks great and I've seen the moon in daylight but couldn't find it at night. Is it because it's the wrong time of the month?

Can anyone explain why the numbers under the left wing are flipped? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

So they can be read from front or back I think, Maybe a British thing ? only one I know of for certain that had both serials the same way was KN452 a RAF C47 but could find no explanation why.

Hurricane 3: from your comments about the prop being black at night you are using FSX - for the tail hook to work you need the engine running! This does not apply in FS9.
BTW does the wingfold work for you in FSX? I cannot get it to work on my installation for some reason.

Thanks for the comments guys - keep 'em coming, cos its the only way I can learn.

Yes, standard serial presentation is so it can be read from both directions; I think, historically, it was done so the tribesman knew which biplane had just bombed him! :kilroy:

The reason for KN452? Probably an error, I've seen a few examples like that, it's usually down to the particular airman doing the job making a mistake.

I think my post was misunderstood

There is a slight misunderstanding of my post and it's probley my fault for not making things clearer.
I'am running FS9 not FSX and the prop is clear ,not black at night since I applied the update. The only thing that I can't get to work is making the second pilot dissapear with the tailhook command.
I tried it on the Grumman Duck and the tailhook works fine but I did notice on the Provost there isn't any message across the top of the screen that says the tailhook is out or in like there is on the Duck.
I know the pilot is supposed to dissapear in VC mode but it doesn't, and the message should show wither the plane has a tailhook or not ,because I accidentally hit the wingfold command and it had the message wings folding at the top of the screen.
I'll save the moon question for another time, ,even though there is a very moonlike refelection on the water at night there isn't any moon visible ,which maybe because there isn't a full moon till the 12th of this month.Don't know how accurate FS9 is about that stuff.

Keith, beautiful job!! I fly in FSX and it's awesome. Is there any way to sharpen up the gauges in the VC, some of them are tough to read.:salute:

Hurricane 3: Auster driver has found my error - in the aircraft.cfg open it up in Notepad & scan down to near the bottom & delete the two '//' in front of the [Tailhook] heading - all should then work. Sorry my mistake I should have included the FS9 version in the update!
Falcon409, sorry about the fuzzy gauges in the VC, but as yet I do not know the cure - its possibly because I stumble on things as I go along. The 2d gauges are clear though & have better definition - possibly a question of rendering software?
Anyway thanks for all of your comments, I will now have to re-issue the update as well as maybe publish a full final set. I will report back when done.

Thanks Keith, I had this explained to me a year or so ago by Milton Shupe I think. It was explained that if the VC panel texture is a small texture size, especially if both halves of the VC panel are on the same texture, then the gauge bitmaps will appear fuzzy because the bitmaps must enlarge to fit the overall size of the VC once rendered in the sim. If the VC panel sections are on separate textures and each section is at least 1024, then the gauges will be crisp and clear.

Now I have another question, lol. I'm adding warning decals and placards to the fuselage where needed and when I put the warning "Emergency Pull Window to Open" on the canopy frame, the right side reads correctly, but the left side is reversed. However if I reverse the text on the left side to compensate, it remains reversed. Any idea why that's happening?

Thats because I didn't map it separately for left or right - I was lazy using just the black area at the top of the fuselage bitmap & it was a mirror set up so just the left hand side was mapped. Sorry!

Keith

Thanks Dev One

Taking the // from in front of [Tailhook] worked . The instructor pilot now goes for a beer , I guess.

The "Provost T1 Final" is now up at Britsim.com; and I was happy enough with the beta! :applause:

Once again, thanks to all concerned. Have a birthday drink (or two) on me!! :icon29::icon29::icon29::guinness::guinness::icon29:

hurricane3: in the 'old' days when learning on Tiger Moths, the sign for a civilian first solo was the Instructor walking back to the tower with his seat cushions on his head, ( mine was in '57) for the RAF it must have been the instructor walking back with his parachute dragging behind! With this model its just selecting Tailhook!
AndyG, thanks for your praise, glad you think it worthy. I like your avatar picture - I'm ex Weybrige TSR2 design Office.....
Now to get on with backing up all my work before my son comes next wednesday to repair my 'puter ( I thinks its got a dying HDD). After that another project to get on with........

Who was able to download a correct archive of the famous "Leonides Alvis" sounds ???
Downloaded 10 times
The archive seem's good .. (exact number of bytes) but when process unzip .. error message about corrupted archive.
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive.
If someone have it .. do a upload on a free host and send me URL
Thank you !

Navtech,

I downloaded the single engine Leonides zip file from the site and it unzipped without any trouble. It was the second Leonides sound file down when I did a search for "Leonides" on the Britsim site.
