Piaggio PD-808 by Mario Noriega released at avsim!

*Bump*

A bit of interest, a bit of testing. I really like the PD-808, but the performance remains abyssimal, cutting FPS by as much as two thirds.
An investigation into the gauges concluded that the issue isn't related to the panel at all. Frames stayed low even with a blank VC, so I make the model itself responsible.

However, what I *could* fix was the annoyingly long loading delay (10-20 seconds) after selecting the aircraft from the menu by removing all tags related to gauge update rates from the XML files. Might have also recovered two to three FPS with that.

The modified gauge file is here: hzzp://www.mediafire.com/?vzmz21jim1d (zz=tt)
(Back up the original gauge file and use the one from the download instead. Or just overwrite if you have the original .zip files.)
(No harm done according to his readme.)

I'm tempted to ask him for the source files for giving a conversion a shot. Or maybe Mario has a copy of the FSX SDK by now...

Really nice aircraft with some system depth. Top notch freeware.

I'm upping this topic to check if anybody has made any progress with the performance of this port-over in FSX.
I have just reinstalled the plane to test it again on my new powerfull computer, and unfortunately I still get bad FPS (15 in a desertic area !!)when I'm sitting in the virtual cockpit !!
FPS is still perfectly fine in external view...

Just like Bjoern, I made some tests again to try to determine more precisely the origin of the problem.
I have deactivated all of the gauges (renammed the cab file), no success.
I have concerted the BMP files in the panel folder to DXT1, no success.
I have deactivated the smoke effects in the aircraft.cfg (thought about the Section F8 Sabre), no success.
This is really strange. It's like there's something in the model itself, as Bjoern said.

The Piaggio P-149 from Mario has exactement the same performance problem.
The Piaggio P-180 Avanti is fine, though...

Thanks for the info Bjoern.
I wish I knew what exactely was causing the performance hit. It's not the gauges, it's not the textures, and it's not the sounds. What in a model could possibly bring such an impact is a mystery...
