Picture from Naval Aviation, 1970s

Is Pete in that pic?

This photograph captures personnel from U.S. Navy Fighter Squadron VF-301, also known as the "Garudas," stationed at Naval Air Station North Island, California.

Never wore any cover out on the flight line!
Nope, I am not in that picture. I was stationed at Pax River then. As for no covers worn on the flight line, yep, true. Side note: I was with VQ-1 on Guam when a Australian Air Force group operated there for a short time. They had, shall I say, very lax rules when it came to safety. We had to wear coveralls on the flight line, with sleeves down and cranials on. The Aussies, on the other hand, wore t-shirts and shorts, and played Frisbee on the flight line. They even brought cases of their beer with them on their aircraft!! Pete
