Pitts Special

Man, that is a sharp looking bird! Someone is trying to take the Gold Cup from Herr Fischers Bucker Bu-131....

Thanks for the heads up Pointy!

Wow! This is actually a pleasant surprise! Very aerobatic, good VC...but maybe the sound could use some work...hmmm

Suggestions?

Fun plane!

Shot some touch and goes in her this evening. Very fast bird. Have to be quick and keep her under control.

I redid the panel texture a tad in the VC.

Scenery is via Sascha and team, freeware Pattonville, highly recommended.

Seeing as how it said it was V. 1.0, I was expecting maybe something a little rough, but this baby's nice! 2 thumbs up!

Looking good Bill! Where can one find this scenery? Mike :applause:

Hey FlyBoy,

You can find it here;
http://www.climbspeed.de/index.htm

Go to the scenery page.

The airfield is small, but there are tons of scenery elements all over the area, small hangers on the other side of the airfield, the most amazing bushes and trees, small farm fields that are high detail textures, some AI scenery with a Cessna and a Extra 300, some houses and 3D people, then surrounding area's with appartment buildings, German houses, a drive in theatre. I think they even put in some surrounding terrain texture as well.

The cool thing is when you are on approach, coming over the small crop fields and bushes and cars, you feel like its real. (Those little bits of real scenery in front of the runway that you start to notice in a real flight when you are getting real close to the ground and are able to see things closely).

Awesome work, extremely high quality.

Thanks Bill, it does sound immersive, I'll give it a try after work tonight.

Are you going to upload the VC mods for this Pitts?

Thanks again! Mike:wavey:

Hey Mike,

Roger, I can do that. I didnt think it was a big deal. I only used a nicer wood grain and then shaded the edges of the gauges and then the hood of the panel dash over it.

I like how the ribs of the wings are so well modelled. Very nice craftsmanship.

Fun little plane. Verrry responsive; puts my Super Deke to shame. Has very good landing manners as well; a pleasnt surprise.:ernae:
I noticed it seemed a bit hot in the speed department. Since the real thing has a Vne around 200kts, I checked the cfg file. Cfg file has a big Six (maybe an O-520?) in front swinging a 3-bladed constant speed prop, very much like the S-1-11B 'Super Stinker'.
At this point all I've done is to put in the engine stats of a Lycoming O-320D (around 160hp) and the top end is now around 135kts, cruises at 120 or so. Not bad; it still retains its awesome maneuverability and general fun-to-flyability but not sure if the real thing goes at this speed. After all most S1's have an O-360 with at least 20hp up on mine (I just wanted to be different). It's getting late so at some point tomorrow I'll try to set up a 2-bladed fixed pitch prop and see what happens.:sleep:

Any chance of you posting the engine and propellor mods? Would be better to have somethin more accurate for the pitts

Here's what I got so far. I was extremely tired when I put up the last post. As mentioned before I haven't set up the prop mods yet but it will likely be very close if not identical to the default 172. Just copy and paste the following information in your cfg file. (boldfaced type reflects the changes done thus far). I still have to do a few minor changes; I haven't tested it after swapping out the default fuel injection for an aerobatic carb (fuel_metering_type = [linestrike]0[/linestrike] 2). It's not a 1% file but it should be close at this point.

[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type = 0
Engine.0 = 6, 0, 0
fuel_flow_scalar = .85
min_throttle_limit = 0

[piston_engine]
//Lycoming O-320D
power_scalar = 1.0
cylinder_displacement = 80
compression_ratio = 8.5
number_of_cylinders = 4
max_rated_rpm = 2700
max_rated_hp = 160
fuel_metering_type = 2
cooling_type = 0
normalized_starter_torque = 0.32
turbocharged = 0
max_design_mp = 29.9
min_design_mp = 9
critical_altitude = 0
emergency_boost_type = 0
emergency_boost_mp_offset = 0
emergency_boost_gain_offset = 0
fuel_air_auto_mixture = 0
auto_ignition = 0
emergency_boost_duration = 0
max_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar = 1
idle_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar = 1
max_rpm_friction_scalar = 1
idle_rpm_friction_scalar = 1

Also, copy and paste this information near the end of the cfg file:

[Reference Speeds]
flaps_up_stall_speed = 50.4
full_flaps_stall_speed = 50.4
cruise_speed = 133
max_indicated_speed = 177
max_mach = 0.25
