Playing usermade mission in Multiplay.

Does anyone know the pros and cons of
usermade multiswap missions, for online play?

For instance.. flying against Axis (allegiance set to Allied),
does a player joining a game (w/same .mis) take the place of Allied AI planes?
Or do i set Player(allied) number in MB to 1. instead of 2-8 ?
If anyone knows, please tell.

Last night, i hosted a Multiswap mission (stock ace01_inj.mis) on Reverb.
Before my bad to nonexistent connection failed and i was offline
for some time , at least 2 of 5 players in the game saw a lonely
jap AI plane. Not sure if the other players had the same swap utility
and/or mission set up.
Not even sure if all must have the same swap utility.

Please comment.

Thanks pilots ¨S¨

just now tried a mis with capmercy online.
A few of the Val AI started to shoot each other down.
Anyone know what that could be?

Grettir,

Someone will know a lot more about this than I will but I am pretty sure you can't use AI in multiplayer. As for swapping in other missions, I think that puts everyone on the same page as far as added scenery objects go such as antiaircraft, ships, etc. But if you join a game without the right mission you will still spawn and fly in the right place, you just won't see their targets perhaps, or their ground scenery. Your wingmen might get shot to pieces by AA that is in their mission file but not yours and you will wonder what all the fuss is about because you won't experience any of that.

As far as I know you can't share ground target experiences with cfs2 such that if you destroy a ship on your screen the ship will still appear undamaged to the other flyers since apparently that info is not transferred over the internet. Also you can only use stock guns, no bombs, rockets, etc. Clearly they had dogfighting in mind when they formed the game.

If you spawned into a game and then lost your connection your plane might still be in the game of the others and thus you might appear to them as the "lonely AI".

I assume the player number you use when you set up the game limits the total number of players allowed at one time so you don't want to set it at 1.

I am new to this too. I gather that a few years back battles raged between huge numbers of flyers on the old MS zone, now gone. I've been told that the use of routers, unknown back then, has made setting up for a game difficult to the point where many can't get past it. I suspect that another reason for the downturn is that, as in any sport, there are winners and losers and after a while the good get so good that a newby has no chance of success and looks for a new sport where he might stand a chance. A "beginners only" zone is clearly needed. I rattle on.

for one: AI in multiplayer knows no loyalty... Friendly AA and planes will fire on you and each other.

Also: You and other players will see the same moving objects in different places. for the most part, you can't coordinate your firepower to destroy a single target. (Brunhost is the exception I've heard but doesn't work with XP and later.)

The problem with AI, was with only 1 of 2 squads.
1 squad attacked the target, but the other one just shot each other down.
They did not shoot at players and
they only shot down planes within own squad.
The other squad worked fine and was fired upon by
friendly AA at airfield + AA from a Allied destroyer
and Allied carrier. Allegiance is not a problem
in Multiplay, using MPSUtil
Mission is set up with 2 x 5 Val.

I edited the .mis.
Removed 1 Val squad, set 4 A6M2, supporting 8 Val´s.
Going to test it online now.

With same .mis (made w/default cfs objects), players in
a MP game do see the same targets and AI´s.
That i have tried and tested.

"I've been told that the use of routers, unknown back then, has made setting up for a game difficult to the point where many can't get past it."
If you can get ports opened on your router, MP cfs2 is as easy
as pie. Try ReverbCDROM.2.1.0.0 and you will see how
the Zone worked and looked like, apart from the skin used
on the Reverb lobby.

In a multi swap mission with ai each player will only see the ai that is in their game. For instance a ai zero in a multi swap mission where all have swapped to that mission, you for example see "your" ai zero and you kill it the others still see their ai zero until they kill it.

Now for ai other than planes there was a little utility that swapped/set your alliance (before game start as I reacall) so only the enemy ai shot at you. But I can't recall the name of the utility.

Still though, you may kill the ai but others in the game will still see it up and active until they kill it. This is because the multiplayer mission runs on your game only, it does not in itself interact with the other players.

Thanks for the reply's.
Yes, mission with AI are always player side.

Only missions to fly in MP, are against objects.

A few of us had fun though, last night.
Chasing Ai´s all over the place.

Reverb Lobby and MPSUtil work seamlessly
together, for a blast online.
Hard to believe, more people have not
checked this out.
If you ever missed the Zone,
here is the chance to fly online again in the same
exact way. :amen:

Thanks Shadow Wolf.

I am signed up there. Never got around to
flying with them.

I am afraid i wont be using the Flight Deck
for finding MP games.
Reverb´s way to easy.
Like the Zone, i can post a link to whatever,
in chat.
Makes getting Dl. for CFS2, or what ever,
a click way.
Anyone remember that from the Zone?

As I said in a different thread, I'll be sure ro recommend Reverb to them. :applause:

I have a mission, uploaded here that you can use in multiplayer, where you fly from base to base and can engage individual static targets at sea and on land. It also has carriers, placed along long stretches between bases, where you can land, repair, refuel and rearm. It's in my scenery download pack. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.p...&page=downloads&FileUploadName=Shadow Wolf 07
