PMDG 737 NGX released!

Welll, once its finished, I'll take requests, but in general, TWA never flew 737s. Its mostly for a few of us at TWVA who enjoy this type of tube.. But i'm happy to share with anyone who wants it. Just let me get it finished.. :)
Pam

I was wondering if the PMDG NGX allows one to jump right in and fly or does one have to go through the start-up sequence?

There are options for loading the plane in a certain configuration, including with the engines running. The problem with a bird as complex as this one is that you can easily get into trouble if you don't know the status of all the systems, how to work them, and what to do when a warning buzzer goes off.

I've started a couple of tutorial flights with the engines turning and most systems operational, then just programmed the FMC and flew. So yes, you can avoid a full startup if you don't have time.

It is definitely not worth the 70 USD if that's what you want to do with it. Fly the default or a POSKY version. Don't waste your money.

The NGX is a serious simulation.

These "hotfixes" are madness!!! I was doing ok with hotfix 2 and since i installed today hotfix3 my aircraft goes to single digits at same situation!!!!

Hotfix 2 - 15-27fps
Hotfix 3 - 5-8fps

Same airport, same hour, same day ....
It makes me wonder if they are using us as testbeds for their product improvment.

Actually it's a good system for step and learn of a complex simulation. The thing with this type of system is a win win for PMDG as it captures simmers and gets them in and provides different levels of learning while respecting all simmers have different learning curves and needs which equals fun and learning. I scraped all my posky 737's when the Ifly and NGX came out and wont go back. The money was well worth payed and spent.

The only problem is that with these hotfixes, many of us are still having problems and the aircraft is almost ( but not totally if you know the systems ) unusable... And the standard clientele of teir support forums are about as friendly as a house full of bumble bees...

Since hotfix 1 I have not had any problems with freezing screens. I haven't installed the other hotfixes and probably won't until an actual service pack is released. Not going to risk breaking it again.

Assuming you aren't part of the MINORITY that is having issues, it is an absolutely incredible aircraft. I believe it is the best aircraft addon for FSX yet.

The weirdest part about this whole thing is that through their extensive and lengthy in-house testing, nobody ever ran into these problems. Goes to show you no matter how long you spend testing, you're still going to run into issues.

Minority is right, either that or all the little PMDG Proselytes are keeping quiet.
From what i'ver been seeing over there, the problems all revolve around the use of VNav and its inability to let go of control when you turn it off.. it can be extremely frustrating.. Weirdest part i9s, VNav works i8n the 747. why cant they use the same basic code from that for the 737??
Puzzling at best..

The 737 NG and 747-400 use different avionics suites and different software to impliment their EFIS/FMC flight control systems, which are not the same. The New 747-8, which I look fwd to flying sometime in the late Fall will have yet new capabilities.

Because of the different implimentations of the FMC's I expect they had to do the whole thing from scratch. Just going from the FS9 to the FSX versions of the 747 was a major PITA, almost nothing was the same when all was done!

Cheers: T

I can't say I've seen anything like that, in fact the VNAV implementation seems to be rock solid, the best in any FSX airliner I've seen yet.

What do you mean that it won't let go of control when you turn it off?

Tom.. That makes perfect sense and i hadnt thought about it.. Thank you...

As for the VNav issues?? Consider yourself amongst the lucky few that it works for.. Issues ranging from panel freezes to complete loss of control have popped up. Even after three hotfixes the problem remains and its become PMDG's primary priority to fix it..
The ongoing discussions can be viewed on PMDG's 737NGX forum.. Theres several, and every minute more threads are being added.. Do a search for hot and you'll pick up all the relevent threads including my own misspelled topic..

Basically, when you disconnect VNAV LNav the FD or the AP, they dont really disconnect. all inputs are ignored and if the plane dont crash, it just keeps flying forever.. You cant do a thing with it..

I completely agree. I haven't run into any VNAV problems either. Their 737 simulation is WAY better than their 747 simulation. Not even close.

Pam, you might be having problems but there are plenty of people who have made many successful flights in her. I have over 24 hours of flight time with her now. You're making it sound like only a couple people can actually fly the thing. :kilroy:

Speaking of flying, I think I'm going to come up with a flight plan and get her back in the air. :jump:

Wellll, look on the PMDG 737NGX forum.. When I got a reply from Ryan, he said that whatn they are looking at is the possibility that some of us with massive video setups and SLI are4 seeing issues with graphics memory being re-mapped to main memory and running FSX out of memory..

That sounds like a fun error to figure out. We totally need a new sim engine...

Flew almost 4 hours tonight without any issues, cold n dark to cold n dark. :mixedsmi:
