No idea tubes were that popular. But why?

I think it's because for the vast majority of people, airliners are the only aspect of aviation they ever experience. They want to know what happens up front during those long flights, what all the screens and switches do, and whether they could fly one themselves. That's certainly the appeal of tubes for me, though I fly all sorts in MSFS.
