Rivers on hill sides?

Any idea what I might have done to cause this?
....Installed are FSG2010, UTUSA, UTCAN-Alaska

No idea why there are three of the same posts

Glitch? When all I was doing is trying to edit for mis spelling:kilroy:

UT was made to work with default terrain. So the mesh creates a hill where UT created a river or stream. One addon does not know what the other is doing. Mesh and UT do not play nice together. You can make it a little better by turning off lakes and rivers in UT, but it will never look exactly right. Suggest you decide which addon you like best and delete the other.

Hi Terry,

Well cripes o crackers, I wished I'd have known this (or the developers disclosed that) information prior to buying it. FSG2010 I thought was the best thing to happen for enhancements. And now that you mention it, none of this type of displacement happened until I had them all installed.

It would be great if the developers would make a fix for this pickle. Make it right.
....I saved money on my car insurance. Now the home owners went up!!

Thanks Terry for the response. I'll try the rivers and lakes settings. Come to think of it, I think they're already off.

Basically, buying $150 of computer software that was never designed to accurately recreate 57 million sq. miles of surface... and hoping...

Neither Microsoft, nor any of the add-on suppliers has the patience, budget or manpower to manually correct the source data for every river, creek pond or lake. The proofs of that are the HUGE errors like CYRV being in a 'hole in a lake', the 60,000 ft 'spikes' among others and if they got missed, then the Green River doesn't stand a chance. Microsoft's world was painted with a rather broad brush with an IFR slant... given the biases and budgets I think we were lucky to get the cities in more-or-less the right spots for $50

none of this type of displacement happened until I had them all installed.
It was there, but with the addons you expect more and look more closely, or fly lower to enjoy it. Yes, the mix of addon mesh and the UT enhancements tend to amplify the errors but they were there from the outset.

At least with UT and Canada Roads, USA Roads and a few others we have a bit of a chance for VFR nav - most of the rest of the 57M Sq Mi gets even less care.

The more you go for acuracy in FS9 the more things get messed up.

The main issue is the world was built so close yet so far away from correct. Most half attempts to correct this or that for real world acuracy end up yeilding undisired and unexpected results.

Take Raymondo Trabuets US Waters add on which can be bought at sim market for $20.

Its a fine package that corrects all of the major water ways in the US. However when it is installed and working you suddenly notice how many airports are in the wrong place and have runways over the water. As well as buildings sitting out in the water at airports.

To acurately correct this would be a monumentus task and anyone who would do it would be better off starting with FSX. At least it was modeled on a Spherical world and not a world made out of a cylinder.

Still a good quality mesh tends to be close but you will have to live with certain deficiancys from time to time.

For give the spelling errors I am using the wrong browser at the moment.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'm just going to have to live with it. Though I'm not happy about it. I would think that developers should share knowledge amongst themselves to alleviate problems of this nature. Collaborate instead of adding to the mess. But nooo, it's a dog eat dog world at the simmers expense to learn what works and what does not. Pathetic

OleBoy - I tried to match your screenshot as close as possible:

I have FSGlobal2008, UT USA, Canada/Alaska installed. I'm not seeing what you are. Maybe a conflict with other addons or default scenery not properly disabled by your UT install ?

A.

ps. If you can give the coordinates for the other screen I will check that as well - with UT installed there should be no default steams showing.

And I'm sorry but that is just c**p. UT will work with any mesh - infact the better the mesh, the better the result. UT was designed to be accurate so it will fit better over an accurate mesh. I can post screens to prove this if necessary.

One thing you might want to try is turning off extended river flattening in UT. That can cause some unpleasant visual side effects.

Hi aardvark,

Wow, your sim looks far better than mine as far as placement of the rivers and roads. More natural.
...As for the headings, the valley you see veering to the left, that is the area of all my screens. And then a back course to the bay by the airport.

It sounds as if we have the same things installed. And you're likely correct about my settings being incorrect. I'd love to see snaps of your settings so I could set mine accordingly and get some enjoyment out of this once again.

As far as other scenery installed, that's it. Same as you aside from the newer FS Global

For comparison the first shot is with FSGenesis worldwide and UT USA with everything turned on. Second shot is FSGenesis worldwide and UT USA after pressing (restore all FS2004 scenery) button. Third shot is fresh install of Golden Wings, no mesh or terrain added. It would be impossible for a company creating mesh, or a company creating terrain, to have their product compatible with all terrains and mesh on the market. And as you can see telling UT to restore the terrain to default has a big problem. All one can do is mix and match until your happy with the result.

I don't know. I have UT USA and Canada along with good mesh (had fsg2008 but now genesis lod11). I've flown all over the Puget Sound area and have never seen a problem.

"For comparison..." not sure what we're meant to be looking at here, but here's mine with FSGenesis freeware US mesh, Ultimate Terrain and GEPro installed. Don't see any problems.

And OleBoy - what you're seeing is the incorrectly positioned default FS9 scenery sitting on the corrected coastlines/landmass of UT. What you need is this utility:

You should then see this:

Aardvark

I went to the UT forums last night. I did quite a bit of reading. Found what you're mentioning and tried it. It did nothing for my situation.

Looking at your snaps it appears that you're missing a lot of autogen compared to what I have shown. You're missing several container cranes, towers and storage tanks, ships, docks and more. My guess is they're not activated?

I'm currently running GEpro only. UT USA, Can/Alaska reset back to default FS2004. Even with that the area looks as if there was a tsunami that moved everything around. Frustrating

I'll bet if 20 of us posted the same shot we would have 20 different shots, excluding default of course. Finding what works for you is just part of the sim. I guess I should be grateful that MS made the sim so open to mods or I would have gotten tired of it long ago.

I've since changed all UT USA settings back to default and deactivated it in the library.
....Microsofts default settings for placement of autogen look by far, way better than than UT developers did. All they did was screw stuff up worse. In my opinion their product is/was a big joke and their research & development lacked what it took to even think of releasing the UT series of add-on products of this nature at the time. If I thought I stood a chance of getting a refund on their crap I would not hesitate to get in touch with them. It's been far too long to even consider.

Here's some shots of bone stock with FSG2010. Take notice where things are placed cor-rect-ly:salute:

Here is another little tidbit about UT. It does not place trees and buildings etc as autogen, instead they are placed as effects. So if it splatters some trees or buildings on your airport your exclude must include effects. This prevents you from adding effects such as an animated windsock or chimney smoke to that area. Doesn't mean anything to most users but it does to those who like to add to the scenery.

OleBoy - the reason the default scenery looks as it does compared to UT is because the default scenery and coastlines are both incorrect. UT corrects the coastline but you still have the default placement of scenery items sitting on top of this - unless you do something to correct this, as I was trying to suggest.

"And OleBoy - what you're seeing is the incorrectly positioned default FS9 scenery sitting on the corrected coastlines/landmass of UT. What you need is this utility:

My post was nothing to do with quantity of autogen (there are sliders that can affect how much shows, you know). I was trying to help with your UT issue. A lost cause judging from your post above.
