Polikarpov I-15

The new I-15 by AF Scrub in the downloads here is nicely detailed & gets exceptional FRs, I recommend it. A great candidate for a few SCW skins.

The contact points are in need of adjustment. In take off missions the AI's become self-destructive 'leaping Lenas'.

Here are some temporary contact points to paste (overwrite) in the 'aircraft' .cfg file until someone comes up with better ones.

I am going to have to resurrect my old SCW install. This will be the third or fourth time I have gone through all those campaigns, but man are planes of that era a dogfighters delight!!! We need to update the campaigns or create new ones . . . RAMI!!!!????

Erufle,

No way! I have enough on my plate right now. However, that doesn't stop you from cracking open the MB vault and seeing how it's done. How do you think I got started in the first place...? :icon_lol:

...by examining the work of others, and slowly developing my own techniques after landing on my face and tripping over my own two feet more times than I can count. We all have to start sometime!

Thank god for Cody Coyote!

Speaking of which, that's one of my secret wishes. Provided you go about it in the right way and get permission for projects like this, I'd love to see a new group of mission writers go about producing missions and updating older campaigns not only for themselves, but to upload them publicly. The Pacific and other theatres have so much more that just needs the "modern" touch.

I made a CFS 2 SCW campaign many years ago, but never posted it due to conflicts with Jack Fola's country files and his campaigns. I can't do much with it now, but when I finish my current assignment I'd like to update it with some of the newer planes now available and with Silvia's vehicles and Xavier's scenery.

That new I-15 and the Ju 52 now under conversion from FS 9 would work out quite well in the campaign.

Oldwheat's new textures are in the library and should be in the download queue soon.

Thanks OW!

By the way, many German pilots in the first few month of Barbarosa reported shooting down or seeing many Polikarpovs in their SCW liveries. Apparently when Uncle Joe pulled his boys out of Spain in April of 1939, they returned to the Motherland and kept flying their planes without repainting them. That being the case, SCW colors can be authentic for Russia in the summer and fall of 1941.

Here is a drawing that OW included in his package.

I just uploaded a new skin for the I-15= Juan Comas ( and yes, I moved the tail # back a skosh)

Since we can apparently download again from the Outhouse I went on a download rampage and got your skins for the I-15. Pardon my Francais', this plane is a little bitch to fly. I'm used to those Ju-88Cs and my Zero, that flies itself.

Good work buddy.

This is a myth. All Polikarpovs used by the Spanish Republic remained at Spain and were kept in service by Nationalist after the war. The Soviet made large use of red bands alongside the red star insignia and that may cause some confusion beetwen the German pilots.

Pepi,

It certainly makes sense that the Soviets left their Chatos in Spain. I don't think aeroplanes back then were considered more than a temporary tool to be used up and replaced as needed.

The Soviet's color schemes certainly confused more than one Kondor Legion pilot flying in Operation Barbarosa as I've seen the reported use of SCW liveries in Russia in a couple different texts over the years. That being the case, it should be easy to convert SCW textures to early Soviet textures with a little work in MS Paint or Paintshop.

Yes, but it is certainly maneuverable. It can virtually bite itself on the a**.

Yeahp! It could be easy even for lousy painters like me. The I-15 and I-152 were not temporaries tools. Remember that the I-153 flew after the I-16. Some interesting images:
