Pond Racer FDE

slow work.... toned down her over-maniacal pitch issue, you can now full back stick and she won't flip out on you, working on the MOI's at present to solve the nose trying to dive down after a sharp stick-to-rear movement... then it's onto the fun of measuring everything on there, working out a good drag scalar, and then onto the powerplant....

anyone have engine details about this thing? things like cyylinders... prop diameters... combustion settings.... anything... :ernae:

will try to keep working but IRIS is keeping me on a leash at present :icon_lol:

Not sure about prop diameters or anything but I got this engine information from wikipedia:
...To power the plane two Electramotive 3 liter V-6 engines were chosen. These were based on the Nissan VG30 automobile engine. The engines were originally developed for auto racing and were turbocharged to produce 1,000 hp (750 kW). However, those fitted to the Pond Racer only ever achieved a peak of around 600 hp (450 kW). The engines drove 4 bladed propellers via propeller speed reduction units (PSRU)...

Apparently the VG30 was the same 3.0 liter V-6 that was common in the 300ZX, Maxima and their 'Hardbody' truck; not to mention the oh-so-mundane Mercury Villager minivan. Now if it was me I'd have gone for that jewel-like twin-turbo intercoolde inline six that was in the R33 Skyline; seems to be more potential for power in that engine. But that's just my humble opinion.

Great, thanks for the update Matt:salute:

There is a Update in Flightsim .
Not tried yet .

The Default install works best for me .
The only thing I changed was the prop rotation.

I saved my original cfg's and tried this one. . .I couldn't really tell enough off a difference to keep it and the panel work was only on the 2d, which I don't use. I'm keeping what I have for now and hold out for something more well done in the future.:salute:

This update made this one much smoother for me. Nice take offs and landings. Smooth controlled turns. Thing is, the plane doesn't touch the ground. Slightly off on the mains, and rather off off on the tail with ignition off.

gauging by the number of threads and responses. . . .when was this forum established? lol:salute:

For those who want to try the new flight dynamics:

It really softens up the flight characteristics, but it does lift the plane off the ground a little, with the engines shut off. (Everything floats).

It's been around at least five years......... T
Ok, I felt compelled to use the scenery design forum when I started doing scenery, but went back to the main forum with my questions, or over to the FSDevelopers because of a lack of participation. Have previous threads been moved from the Flight Dynamics Forum? If not, then for having been up for 5 years. . .not much going on there.

I think peoples perceptions are that once you leave the main forum. . .posts don't get answered as quickly. . .or at all.

Thanks for the HU on the update!

As for a separate forum for FD's, It seems it would make more sense to keep FS9 discussions in the FS9 board to avoid confusion. Same with FSX or whatever. If there were more threads about FD development, I'd consider asking the admin's to add a sub-forum, but as it is now I don't see the need. It just seems to me that lumping all FD threads for all sim's in one spot could lead to confusion.

So-OK. I am using the update posted on FlightSim. But. she floats off the ground. Substituted PeteHams contact points. Still a floater. What entry/ies need to be changed to set her back on the ground. Or, where do I find info that will tell me what the different contact points adjust? I'll take it from there.

Thanks.

Dandog,

My contact points only altered the tailwheel steering on the ground.

I agree with you .... the points need adjusting so she sits on the ground.

Pete.
