Port Moresby missing

stoney

SOH-CM-2023
Just found that my Port Moresby was missing:help:??? The only new scenery I've installed was the af_png_1; 2 and pm. I wouldn't think that would have an impact, would it? Anyone else have this issue?

stoney do the other port moresby air bases like berry show up. I deleted the 1 PM LC chng.bgl and the 0 PM xcld.bgl files , now all the air fields and scenery show up just fine. I am using two different terrain meshes along with lod7 and lod 8.

Yeah, that helped a lot olaf. Any idea about how to get the buildings and trees back? Thanks.

Well I guess it goes to show you can't please everyone....

It’s not an issue, it’s supposed to be that way.

The stock MS Port Moresby, like many of the other stock fields, is in the wrong location and looks nothing remotely like the real field. Beyond it being just plain ugly it was also in the way. It had to go, and to tell the truth I was glad to eradicate it.

In the READ_ME file it states that... " Also included are BGL's to correct the Landclass of the Port Moresby Area and remove the Stock MS Port Moresby Airfield." There’s also a warning about the GSL Scenery GOB’s being overwritten and the changes for the airbases.dat file in the Installation Section.

Old missions can be edited with ease to use the correct fields and with the “Fully Loaded” Layout files that I included enhancing those missions can also be done in a snap.

With all 6 of the real PM Primary Airdromes I saw no reason to preserve it and to be honest I find it hard to understand why anyone would want it or any other stock field back when it has been replaced with a true, historical reproduction(s). But CFS2 is an individual preference…. To each their own.

The same thing was done with the stock Wewak and soon to be released Cape Gloucester and many more will follow. They're in the wrong place and personally I can't stand the big brown blobs. That's the reason I've taken the time and effort to learn Land Class creation, to rid the sim of them and replace them with historically correct Field Locations, Land Class Textures and Layouts.

BTW, The area where the Port Moresby Dromes were built is not a solid Jungle, it's mostly grass land and swamp with sparse trees and dense patches of trees scattered about. If some custom texture set switched the LC of a particular texture series from the defined standards don't blame the LC.bgl...

I love the scenery too Pen32Win. I was just installing quite a few bits of scenery on saturday evening and figured I screwed the pooch on something, as I have done that in the past and someone could usually straighten out my mistake. But in NO way was I not completely satisfied with your super scenery. Now I see that I did read right past the obvious: "Also included are BGL's to correct the Landclass of the Port Moresby Area and remove the Stock MS Port Moresby Airfield." Sorry, PLEASE don't take offense, as none was intended.

I'm not offended, it just doesn't/didn't equate to me, I just couldn't/can't see the logic in wanting the stock field back. I kept rolling it around trying to figure out "Why on Earth?". I know CFS2 customization is a personal choice but I just couldn't wrap my brain around the "Why For?".

If you are looking to do something/a mission/a campaign before a certain field was built all you have to do is add a .bak extension to that field's BGL, the one you don't want that is. Then it will not show up. Just the GSL will be there. And, since I included all of the Final Layout files for each field all you'd have to do is edit them down in MB and you've got the layout to produce Custom GSL for any time frame you wish.

I selected a time frame for the fields that's middle of the road so they could be used equally well with missions ranging from late '42 through '45. The read me also goes into the stage of development that the fields represent, generally early to mid '43. About the only time frame they're really out of synch with is early '42 for which they're over developed. Once built the runways stayed the same with the one exception being the major upgrade to 7-Mile Jackson's Main (R)/Southern runway. It was the original crash strip but in early '43 it was asphalted. The middle Marston PSP runway is the original Main Strip used by Heavies, and had been PSP'ed since April of '42 when the USAAF arrived. That's also when they started building all of the huge revetments. The northern most runway, originally a fighter strip became the crash strip when the 7500' Southern runwway was upgraded.

Thanks, Pen, I too had the problem until I eliminated all of the *p.gls and modified the airbases.dat to reflect the real location. Then, I saw that all of the other airbases were there and just eliminated Port Moresby original from the install.

I really like what you have done for us all.
Thanks.
